1st 'Mario Strikers Charged' Boards.ie Tournament

OK.. so we've had a weekend to settle in. Now for the obligatory first tournament.

I'll be ringmaster and organiser if there's enough interest and no-one minds.

There's one already in progress over at Wiffy.ie. Here's the rules (mostly taken from Wiffy.. hope they dont' mind).

General Information:

If you wish to enter this tournament, post below and I will add you to an ongoing list of entrants.

The amount of people who can enter will have to be one of the following (8, 16, 32) - for ease of elimination through rounds.

If we end up with 20 entrants the 4 extra people and 2 random people picked from a hat will play a little group pre-qualifying matches. Top 2 will go through to main tournament.

The first round of matches will be played between Thursday 31st May and Tuesday 5th June.

You must enter before Wednesday 30th May at 9PM to be included in this tournament.

After the closing time either, i will PM you and will require you to PM back for confirmation. If you do not confirm it you CANNOT be in it. But don't worry you have until the last day of the first round to confirm.

NOTE: Please try and reply the MOMENT you get the PM. Do not leave it until the end of the tourney. This is only for people who were offline or on holidays etc. The whole tournament will be knockout. For example if 16 people are in it, 8 will progress to the quarters, 4 to the semis and 2 to the final. The more entrants we get the better this tournament can be. If you wish to help out in the making of the tournament, please PM me.

Rules:
- No lying about the scores of the matches.
- If possible please take a picture of the final score for verification.
- Once you find out who you're playing against please PM them and work out a time and date to play. Then post that time and date here with at least 2 hours notice.
- After the deadline for first round matches if some have not been played then you will be automatically out of the tournament.
- Please make sure that youll have the game before the 1st June before entering.

If you have any suggestions of some rules please post them or PM them to me.

I don't see a point in banning their use from the tourney - they can be brought down if tackled before the shot.. difficult but possible!

Was just the last two games I'd played the guy did nothing but that move to score and didn't (and still don't) know how to counter. So long as it is possible to beat it I don't mind, I'd better start practising so!

You need to keep your defender, it doesn't matter who but the faster the better, outside the range of the hammer bros hammer fake (the one where he flattens you) i.e. just run away from hammer bros. then when he is about to shoot he has to power up first (ie. hold b button) and as he is powering up you can slide tackle him to stop him scoring. Its not easy but its the only way of stopping him without using the c button (that I know of).

Well the hammer brothers dodge move is a hammer that flattens anyone around them and just happens to give enough time for him to charge for his super shot that knocks the goalie down and is pretty much an instant goal (if he's close enough)

I've no problem with the Hammer Bros. Just wait til he does he annoying attack and tackle him then. Works for me everytime.

I've been having mixed results online. it's 50-50 whether I win or lose.

How about having a rule where you can only have one smash brother per team?
At least that way it wont be always be the one move been used. I used to play with two but now i find its more satisfying to score by other means. Dont get me wrong though if I need a goal, I'll smash brother it home!

I don't think we should restrict them,they are quite easy to counter and they have to be close to the goals,they aren't as powerful as everyone thinks they are.

I don't think there should be any limit on any characters at all. There are much better sidekicks than the hammer bros. They just seem to be the ones people go for. I started off using one on my team but found he was too limited so ditched him.

Yup, there were a few on Wiffy who I had to re-add and I couldn't understand why they did it in the first place but then it clicked...

Losing is part of life, why try to erase that?

(..and I've lost quite a lot so far - bloody hard game!)

(Sorry KdjaCL... but for ease of the pre-qualifying and also it was slightly past the cut-off time, you're gonna have to be on the bench for this one but if anyone can't play or pulls out, you can take their place).

* OK lads.. so there's need for a round of 2 pre-qualifying games.. i'm gonna put the final two (djsim, The_B_Man) into the hat and draw them against 2 random players in the first 16. The matches shall be played as soon as possible. I'll PM those who are in the playoffs to inform them of the situation.

The winners of the two games go through to the main tournament and a first round shall be drawn soon after the results of the qualifiers.
