10th June. I will be there with the Jag. Anybody else?

Last year there were about 200 cars if I remember well.

    Thinking about it...

What's the scene - can you just show up on the day with an old jammer? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

    Yes pretty much !

You could have pre-registered but that date is closed off now, only means you may not get a prize.............some old plate or something. If you do go just tell them you are with the Merc Club and park with us !

Last year I turned up on the day, paid my €15, parked with other Jags and got my "free" sandwiches and big flashlight.

Mermad, I will certainly come see you and your fabulous carriage :)

    15 quid?

(I'm not a cheapskate (OK, I am) but that's a bit steep is it not?
If that's the exhibitor's fee what do the public get charged?

I've not been to Mosney before so would be interested... have the old Merc... not exactly classic, but 'old'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

Yeah I suppose its steep but you do get the plate, AND 2 cups of tea and four sandwiches, so not too bad !!

Last year was the first year I missed it since it started !

What's this I hear about a free big flashlight?

*attempts to get torch fetish under control*

    Methinks I'll make this trip.

Yeah they change the prizes each year. So far I have gotten plates, enamel & silver, a Polo Shirt, a pen set etc.........all good quality TBH !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭8~)

Right... what's in the sandwiches? Might swing it for me.

What's the standard of cars, general atmosphere - Trim (anything goes, some junk) or Terenure (better class of car, potentially slightly pompous)?

At present, I'm in the Trim camp...

(Were you in Kilbeggan, MercMan? If so, I didn't see your car there.)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 723 ✭✭✭3ps

    it's like Trim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

Yeah more like Trim, more casual and some Trade stands too, better atmosphere to be honest !

No I wasn't at Kilbeggan, I was actually invited to a BBQ a few weeks back by a friend of mine who wanted me to look at his 944, which he wants up and running for Mosney so he can sell it !

It'll be a nice project for someone, doesn't need much, its 1982 2.5,red with Fuchs wheels, taxed and has a 1989 engine in it. I'd buy it myself but I have no room !

    Anyway thats why I wasn't at Kilbeggan ! :(

Yep! I hope to be there with my little Suzuki Cappuccino - not quite a classic yet but well on it's way :)

    Ladies, gents and others.
The price of the show includes tea and sambos for 2, the program, + the prize. The prize this year is a 40 piece miniature socket set.
The show costs us over 22,000 euros to put on and we also support a number of local charities with the proceeds, we helped 8 charities last year.
We couldn’t do this without all of your support so I hope to see you all on the day.
Once again thanks for supporting the show.
    Éamonn

I'm just bringing the one brunette.
If she starts grumbling after an hour like at Terenure last year there'll be trouble!

am planning to be at Travelodge by 10:30 and head on from there to be in Mosney by 11:30

So what's the best route from Dublin?

Is the M1 the only option or is there a more "scenic" route?
Never been out that direction before.

Went to Mosney today just to browse. I have to say I thought it was well organsied and it was great to see so many old classics out on a great summers day. It was especially good that so much care went into what were average family cars of the 60s/70s/80s and that they are looking so well on Irish roads. It wasn't all about the likes of the red e type, silver '67 DB6, the startsky and hutch gran torino, general lee Dodge charger or the 3 or 4 De loreans. Well done to all. Shame about the traffic jam trying to get out in the end.;)

Firstly I’d like to thank to all who turned up to support the show, without you we would not have been able to get the show up to the standard it is now. I hope all who were there enjoyed it.
I would be very interested in hearing any feedback good and bad so we can keep on improving the show.
Mosney is a fantastic venue; the field id ideal in every respect bar one, there is only one way in and one way out. I apologise for the delays in getting out but unfortunately it was some what out of our control.
    Thanks
    Éamonn

Really enjoyed the day - and what a day.
Just a few pics (from the Merc stand) to start the ball rolling.
No doubt there'll be more variety to follow!

    Pic one
    Pic two
    Pic three

The american automobile association had a great day, huge amount of motors turned up , and a good few from the north came down to it, very good cross section of yankee metal.it was fantastic to see such a good turn out of every make and model of other cars across the huge field. great day out for people to get to see these classics. keep up the good work , a fantastic show. well done to all the committee.

Enjoyable day out, thanks for all your efforts.

Things that need to improve: Once again the sweetie and crisp outlets were charging silly money. Given that there's a rake of kiddies attend the bash, that don't get the problem with paying 5 eurons for three licorice ropes (or whatever), 'rip-off' and 'captive market' come to mind. It's the same story at Terenure of course, but surely there's a less expensive retailer who's prepared to set up shop for the day?

Scrap the tea/sandwich, prize and just charge the person(s) in the show car a fiver a head like the viewing public.
