I know you can get 30 days on entry, but can one apply for a longer visa, if so how long is the visa for, does it start from from date of issue or date of entry, how much does it cost and what sorta turnaround time would one be looking at from the embassy in Dublin?
Also do I need to produce and onward ticket on entry?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Are you going to HK? We got a 90 day visa in HK for about 40 euro ... took 2 days I think.

I'd be flying into Hong Kong for a few days and then onto the mainland.

I had a 6 month visa last year. From the chinese embassy in Austria there was an express option that took less than 1 week. Dunno the cost as work sorted it out for me.

Then there are a couple of visa offices just off Nathan Road, two beside each other. From here you can pay for a 90 day visa and the cost will depend on how quickly you want it, cheapest if you wait 4/5 days. Easy and reliable!

You'll have no problem finding the place as there are flyers in all the hostels and people giving them out on the streets too.

it's so easy, go to a china travel centre, give em your passport, have a pic taken, visa costs about HK$400 and it's done in a few days.

Got mine last week in the Chinese Embassy on Ailesbury Road. Download the form off their Irish website and drop your passport in with a photo. The form is here

Takes 4 working days, 30 euro, pay when you collect. Express one can be collected the next day for 53 euro

Just been in the Embassy getting mine today funnily enough. Normally takes up to a week but as damianom pointed out you can pay an express charge. Are you going on hols? If so, will help you if have a copy of your e-ticket to take with you. Only opens until 12pm.
