Has anyone used these Hong Kong shops before? They are the only 2 shops with the lens I want in stock. I just want to have peace of mind before I commit to buy it now.

Kea Photo & URGalaxy are both eBay shops, in Hong Kong.
They've been used by quite a few people here, with outstanding results. Have to say, the service from URGalaxy is impossible to beat!
Bought a lens, Battery Grip & Flash card on Thursday night, had them delivered to my office on Monday morning. (Before 11:00)

A friend of mine used DigitalRev to buy a 30D last week. Everything just as he ordered. He was very impressed.

I used DigitalRev for everything before switching to Kea - shop with confidence mate!!

Kea don't have it in stock :( I've sent them an email to see if they can get it in for me.

DigitalRev seem to have better prices than Kea for a good few Canon items (camera, lenses, packages of camera + lens).

I might be tempted to buy a lens from DigitalRev and say nearly €100.

Another eBay store has confirmed stock of the lens I want and will declare low value. I think I've heard them mentioned here before, so has anyone dealt with Hong Kong Supplies before?

I just bought a D80 with Grip and card bundle from digitalrev so far they seem very stable and as it goes to the office i miss the import ;-)

I was going to order from DigitalRev this week but when I asked them if they would mark the package as low value, they said this. Should this stop me ordering ?

"Please send us a note when placing your order to request the item to be gift wrapped. However, we regret to inform you that we cannot mark the parcel as “gift”. We understood your concerns of import tax. When delivering to EU countries, in normal practices we declare the value of the goods close to its true prices to avoid backfire from the local custom on our deliveries in the future. Hope you could understand."

I ended up buying it from Hong Kong Supplies. So fingers crossed all goes well.

Lens arrived this morning with FedEx. Value was marked very low (mistake I guess ;)) so Hong Kong Supplies are another excellent ebay store to deal with.

Gear porn with follow later :D

When I bought my 300mm f/2.8, it was shipped with FedEx, from HK, the next day, which was a Friday. It was delivered to my office on the following Monday.

I've recently ordered something from Canada, which is being shipped by UPS.
Take a look at the tracking log, below...

    good old ups..

I noticed the last time I bought from kea that at least 1 stop on the way is gone. Every package used to stop in Indonesia and Paris for sorting and recently it's one or the other. Suppose it depends on what planes are going where though. Never mind, I'll get my coat..

The problem with UPS in the USA & Canada is that a lot of the internal movement is done by truck. My FedEx parcel came through the Philippines and France.

I've only used Digital Rev for my camera gear for the last 2 years. They're great to deal with. Just took delivery of a D200, 1.4 50mm lens, Battery Grip. A good friend also had new D200 delivered by them to his home (mine goes to the studio). No issues with DHL :) I saved over €500 on Irish Camera Shops

I just had a lens delivered from DigitalRev, and was stung for the tax. Shipped by DHL.

if i'm getting something these days the crowd i deal with is Trendypod (mad name huh?) anyway they're pretty good (at least they were) i've been waiting for a lens from them for a while now - about a week! i'll give them a little while longer before i get in contact.
The one time i couldn't use them (web site was out of action) i used Digital Rev for a Canon G7 + a 4Gig card, I got the usual standard e-mail about not marking down stuff etc. as they are afraid of any kick-back from the EU and all that, anyhow in the end i paid €30 to Fedex which i thought was very fair and didn't sting as much as i expected. :):)
Sometimes Digital Rev have stuff located in London which wont attract any duty/VAT whatever. They have a big online shop outside e-bay too it's just they wont deliver to ireland - something to do with the Waste Electronic Equipment Directive

just a little update about TrendyPod they've informed me that my item has shipped. So they're still high on my list of dependable suppliers, it's being carried by DHL. I don't expect too much tax on it as it's a very cheep almost worthless 150 macro lens ;)

My package from Canada is due tomorrow.
Lets see if UPS can manage to screw this up!

Hi .... I just heard some rather concerning news about a lens being shipped from Kea to a friend of mine ... it took weeks surface post and eventually arrived back in Hong Kong with the stamp "RS" on it ... Albert just refunded the money and said all bets are off ...

    Strange!!

I checked out Kea last night on Ebay after reading an albert thread. They have a Canon 400 F4 IS,DO at buy it now 2850 pounds (or similar) I checked out the same lens in AC foto and after the exchange rate the Ac price was €2000 dearer:eek: Are their prices usually so low? they say on their ebay site that they will mark the item as a gift or low value for delivery, does this always work.
BTW, how is the 400 Do lens rated, I believe not as good as normal USM, am I right.

    Strange!!

I just realised the RS is return to sender - if it was delivered to an address when no one was home an post probably kept it at a sorting office for a week or two before sending it off back again. They are supposed to leave a note saying they tried to deliver it and it needs to be collected but if the note never made it then that might explain it. First I heard of a delivery issue from kea to ROI tbh.

I'm sure that this thread and a few others here will be compulsory reading for would be and existing revenuers. :(

Good point ... it is an great conversation but we need to be more careful ... is there a better way of having these conversations ?

... should we just kill these kinds of threads and confine discussions of this nature to the PM system ?

I was thinking that myself ,it costs a lot of money to enforce laws like that though ,doesn't it???

It's not like anyone here is making a substantial profit on it .

No, but some people are saving a good amount (in tax), never mind the saving on the items themselves. :D
