Right, after having a set of Wizard pups for 3 months I have finally decided to have a go and install them myself. I watched the video on the Seymor Duncan website which is a great help. Anyway I have taken off the guard and taken note of where the new wires need to be soldered. Next I started to remove the old connections from the 5 way switch. No problems there ;)

The 3 black wires that are soldered to the pot are the problem. The iron won't melt the solder already there and I can't get them off. WTF do I do? Is there solder that needs even higher temperature than my soldering iron can reach?

    Feylya? Anybody?

If your soldering iron wolt melt it, don't leave it on the pot, you could burn it out. If you're in a bind, snip the other wires a couple of cm away from the pot and solder the new wires onto them, rather than the pot, then tape up the join.

your probably using one of those crappy little pencil type soldering irons?
Soldering gun is your only man it heats up to required temp in about 40 secs so your in and out quickly. You need to be cause sustained heat can demagnetise those new pickups.

Pencil type is right but it wasn't cheap. I have sut the wires so its just the resoldering left. First time to do this but I reckon it will be OK.

What were the stock pickups? I have stock texas specials in my strat. They sound really nice to me anyway

The Strat is a Highway 1 so the stock pups were probably one up from the cheapest Fender do. They weren't too bad on cleans but sounded crap with distortion.

And there was a big difference between the present ones and the stock ones?
