Ok, how do you guys deal with them?.

Lately I've had more bad days where my Judo was just down right terrible. Last night being one of the worse, I was thrown, tapped and hurt by guys half my weight and who I'd normally go fairly easy on.

I usually find these are the nights where there's few on the mat and I can't seem to get motivated. But last night was the worse, I almost never tap for chokes unless its a tight RNC, but last night I was like a bloody bodhran player tapping away all night.

    I'm p*ssed off

Martin it sounds like you need to take a few days off to recharge the old battery and make yourself miss going training-then you should get motivated and be back to your old self-did i use the old card enough times-;)

We all get 'em Mairt. Paul is spot on. Strangely enough a good rest is usually the key.

And, what's with all this "old" stuff. Only a couple of days ago David Patterson was calling me "old"! I'm bloody 33! :D

I get these good days and bad days too. Granted I don't have the same experience in judo as you do, but some nights I feel on - throwing everybody and it all seems to fit into place, where other nights I get tossed everywhere and just can't seem to get myself working or co-ordinate myself properly.

    I'm 41 :o and Paul looks about 12 so I guess I'm "old" to the kid :)

Agree with the lads Martin, take a few days out and shower your head - a mate of mine from Belfast used to use that term :)

What helps me is some music therapy combined with a few inspirational video clips to watch - see Benny the jet thread.

Before long I'm buzzin to get back. You gotta remember its inspirational in itself that you're still on the mat giving it all at a tender 41 :D

Yea I think a few days rest might be the thing. It might help me to recover from some niggling injuries.

My right shin has been taking a bashing lately and I'm spending more time defending that than anything else.

Someone suggested it might be stress fractures  its like the worse sin splints in the world. I've constant brusing from my knee to ankle and can barely have anything touch it.

Right, I think I'll take a walk in the sea!. Seriously, living beside Portmarnock beach and there's nothing like a stroll along the shore with the cold waves lapping at my legs.

Might even put the boardies on and have a swim :D

Hey Mairt, Usually when I'm in a bad phase I just throw myself at it extra hard and hope I bust the plateau. But if its injuries and stuff its usually your body saying "rest mate, please!" You'll probably come back like dynamite.

By the way, someone said your name to me last Wednesday, was that you hanging around SBG Northside talking to Richie last week? I know we've met before but I'm brutal at connecting names with faces. You're a big chap with red hair right? I'm the skinny git with the beard and the... ahem... 'thinning' hair.

No harm in taping to people you consider to be not as good as you, it can be frustrating if you let it get to you, but you can always turn it to your advantage, figure out why they are getting you and then work on it, so now negaitve = positive!

That is what I try and do anyways, I am not saying I always suceed, then again being the coach I have to be there anyway so taking a break for a head shower isn't an option!

Yup, that was me. The same guy who gave you Nurofen when you had a flu a few months back.

I don't train in Andy's anymore, I'm concentrating on Judo in two other clubs at the moment. I trained with Andy in the beginning, out in Finglas, those days were the craic. I've some great photos with lots of fresh faces, you should see some of Karl Roche, I'm sure you seen the photoshop'd Karl in Andy's!.

I should be back training with in Andy's soon, I was waiting for my TotalFitness membership to run out so I guess I'll see you on the mat some day soon.

Deadly Mairt I'll say hi next time. I was in Andy's in Finglas for a wee while too but it coincided with some business decisions I was making and I couldn't make it enough to make it worthwhile:(

Haven't been on the mats there in ages too thanks to exams but I'll be done and dusted soon and back stuck in 100%.

Roper here's an old photo of Karl and me sparring in Finglas, notice Karls bare knuckles!. Before we knew about safety!.

I've a few more of the lads and the set up I'll post if anyone would like their memories jogged.
