Former WBO heavyweight champion Tommy Morrison is ready to make his debut in mixed martial arts, with a goal in mind of eventually landing a fight with UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck "Iceman" Liddell, according to the Arizona Republic.

Morrison (48-3, 42KOs), who recently resumed his boxing career after testing positive for HIV 11 years ago in Las Vegas, has a scheduled bout against 340-pound mixed martial artist John Stover. The bout is scheduled to take place on June 9 at the Cliff Castle Casino in Arizona and will be promoted by Worldwide Fighting Championship.
Following his positive test for HIV, Morrison was medically banned from boxing. In the last few years, he told anyone that would listen that he was given a false-positive HIV result in 1996.

On at least five occasions since December 2006, Morrison has tested negative for the HIV virus. After the head of the Arizona State Boxing Commission personally watched Morrison take a blood test at a lab in Phoenix, and the test came back negative for HIV, Morrison was licensed to return Feb. 20, where he knocked out John Castle (4-2, 2 KOs) in the second round of a scheduled four round contest.

A second comeback bout was scrapped after medical documents were not received in time by the governing athletic board. Morrison did not look great in his bout with Castle and appeared to be tired by the second round. There has been no word on who Morrison is training with in order to properly prepare himself for his MMA debut.

He will find out quickly (not by this bum) the differences between boxing and MMA. The comments he has made recently have been disgusting, along with Bernard Hopkins. Sad thing is, alot of the fans of MMA are fans of boxing and everyone who competes in MMA respect boxers - But alot of the boxers today talk alot of **** about MMA.. Morrison, Hopkins, Mayweather along with the HBO crew.. They are threatened by the success of MMA worldwide.. They should just STFU and acknowledge the sport and give it the respect it deserves like MMA fans do for boxing.

Have to disagree on mma fans respect for boxing-the american mma fans talk about boxing nearly more than mma, all bashing boxing and how easy boxers would be beaten and stuff-personally the fans talk ****-leave them to it,
the fighters are just trying to get publicity as this is what pays there wages-mayweather done good business by just saying a couple of stupid things, boxing still sells out all events so i dont think there worried by mma-most boxers dont even know what mma is-my coaches would not have a clue!

I'm an MMA fan, I've respect for boxing. Just go over to MMA.tv and you'll see bucketloads of threads about boxing. MMA fans & fighters in general respect boxing, that's a fact.

Doesn't matter what kind of publicity they are trying to make.. You don't see any mma fighters talking **** about boxers trying to get publicity. If boxing is so big, they wouldn't need to talk smack on little old MMA to get publicity.

Fact is, they are threatened by it and instead of saying "Hey, MMA is a cool sport and requires a high level of skill.. and I know this because I compete in a combat sport and have endured combat sport training" - They don't, and just dismiss it.

It pisses me off because boxing is a great sport, but they shouldn't be so negative.
