i just bought a vivitar 5mp digital camera, but i can't get it to work. do i need to purchase an SD card separately before it will work?

or is the camera faulty and i should return it?

    thanks.

not sure if that camera has any built-in memory but generally yes, you'll need to pop in an SD card before it'll work. Pick one up in a camera shop and see how you get on.

Actually, what's the model number? I see on the vivitar website that quite a few of their cameras have a small bit of built-in memory

very good.. so it has 16mb built-in, enough for a few photos. Are you getting any error messages / what's happening when you go to take a photo?

Perhaps there's a control over whether it can be used with/without a memory card - like the 350D?

nothing is happening at all. it won't even turn on. i put the battery in - and nothing.

i was wondering if it would work if i put in an SD card?

New camera and new battery - and it won't even switch on? I'd be bringing it back to the shop tbh.

Is the battery charging? Does the charger have an LED on it to indicate that its a) charging the battery and/or b) getting power itself from the main supply?

Does the charger have a mains adaptor plug on it so you can plug it directly into the camera?

Have you a second battery you can try? Go back to the shop you bought it in and try another battery/charger/camera.

assuming you've fully charged the battery, I'd get back to the shop without delay.

the charger is working. it lights up red. its supposed to light green when the battery is charging- it went off after an hour, so i left in it the charger for 5 hours (charging takes 5-8 hours). anyway, i assumed it was charged but when i put it into the camera, the camera won't work.

    better bring it back then.
