    Hi guys,

an unusual thread, but whilst I have an interest in airsoft & paintball, my technical knowledge is nowhere beyond absolute novice.

    My question is this;

Is the following advert for an m15a exempt from licensing? i.e. is the rifle of the < 1 joule variety. If it requires a firearms license, the ad will be pulled post-haste.

    Hey
I asked him to put that up on adverts.ie after he'd posted it up here.
It's exempt from licensing all right.

Actually, I just sent you a pm as I need some clarification on advert.ie and airsoft.

might be an idea to include a mandatory declaration of power and general overall description of what airsoft guns are for posts with airsoft stuff. i.e. this is an electric powered airsoft gun which fires 6mm bbs etc... yada yada...

just makes it clear to everybody what it is, last thing you want is idiots who have no genuine interest in airsoft buying it, or scaremongerers giving out about replica guns being sold to kids on the interweb

I'd actually prefer airsoft guns to be sold here on this forum. I don't like the idea of them being advertised to the masses on adverts.ie, Buy & Sell etc. It could end up being bought by some scumbag who has no interest in using it for airsoft.

At least on this forum, the overwhelming majority of viewers actually have a genuine interest in the sport.

This is not a sales forum nor would I ever like to see it become one.

It would be a better idea to somehow red flag any airsoft product that goes up on adverts.ie and make sure it's looked over first by someone who knows what they're dealing with.

I'd go with CrazyRabbit on this one... If they can't be sold through this forum, then I wouldn't like to see them on adverts.ie. Most people don't go on adverts to get airsoft equipment, so the people looking at it would more than likely not be into airsoft, but rather just think it looks like a laugh.

Might wanna ask the admins aboot this one

I'll replicate what I've already posted in the particular thread on Adverts.ie.

I have an airsoft gas pistol for sale myself, and I asked both o1s1n, who told me to put it on adverts because Boards isn't for selling stuff, and then Redshift (who mods the FS General on Adverts, wherein I believe airsoft stuff should currently slot).

Airsoft for Redshift was a no-no on Adverts, such as I then informed o1s1n by pm (which is why I'm very surprised the CAR15 is still up on it, but there ya go).

So, that's the current version I have got from the powers that be: no airsoft FS here, no airsoft FS on Adverts either.

For what it's worth, I do subscribe to the idea of confining airsoft FS in this Sub-Forum instead of Adverts, Boards rules notwithstanding. It may be a sport and fun, but then again we're not talking about tennis rackets, sticks of RAM, mp3 players or Noddy's toy gun: 1:1 accurate replicas.

i'd imagine the rule about no airsoft on adverts is from before they were made legal, and is merely an extension of the no bb guns/air guns etc... rule since they (air guns) require licencing etc...

it does make sense for airsoft sales to be confined to this forum as you are talking about replica's here that shouldnt be sold to any old joe-scumbag.. but then the mods/admins will no doubt get bombarded with requests from other forums who believe that they should be able to sell in their own forum...

'tis a bit of a pickle

An idea might be to have one stickied thread here where member's selling their own kit can post a link to a sale they have posted on ASI/arnies/IAA websites, that way the sale is not on this forum, but they can still promote it to members here

There was a bit of a confusion over on adverts.ie. That is why the pistol was taken down but the CA AEG is still up. It's an old rule and not exactly everyone was informed about the change in the law.

It's currently being debated whether or not they should be allowed. Be very interesting to see how this turns out.

FYI, the pistol (well, mine...TokMar Centimeter, gas non-blowback) was never put up on Adverts, nor on Boards ;)
