I would appreciate some help as I'm going insane trying to select a decent happy snappy walk around camera.
Its just something to have with me for those "I wish I had a camera with me" moments, so keeping it pocket sized is important.
I've been considering the Ixus 75 or 70 but keep being seduced by bigger brighter toys too, (dpreview is just confusing me at this point). All help gratefully accepted.

I have a Fuji Finepix Z1 which is really slim and convenient for carrying around. Produces great pictures too. I think there are newer versions out now though. Would definitely recommend it though.

I got the Samsung NV10 as my "pocket camera" a few months ago. I love it!

DP Review give it a big thumbs up here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/samsungnv10/ and I was so impressed by it that I blogged about about the type of street photography it let's me take http://digitalbeginner.blogspot.com/2007/03/should-photography-fit-camera-or-camera.html

    Ditto! I love mine.
    Best compact I've ever used!

I'll add some sample images, once Flickr comes back online.

The Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS is a great little camera. My mom got one recently for such snap photos and loves it. Great quality images from it too.

Thanks guys for the feedback, I'm stilling leaning toward the SD75 but thats Canon brand loyalty more then anything. I had seen the NV10 review on DPreview when it first came out and I have to say I'm definitely tempted to try the Fridge Manufacturer :D (I read your blog digitalbeginner). I need to make a decision fast too as my MIL is off to Hong Kong, woo hoo cheap cameras!!!

I just ordered a Finepix Z3, nice and slim, good low light performance. I was tempted with a Z5fd but the price jump was a bit much.

I went for the Panasonic FX-01 just to have the 28mm wide angle, but there are probably about a half-dozen newer models out in the 3 months since i bought mine.

    ;)

I love having a true wide-angle option with compacts like these, although with Panasonic you do pass up the chance of doing low-light shooting. Most other cameras start out with 35mm as their widest setting though, so i felt it was worth the compromise.

I went with the ixus 60... not too long ago on ebay. Very small and 6MP which is all you need for those kinda situations, got mine for holidays this summer, going interrailing so i needed pocket size!
Its very small and light which is perfect.

I believe the 75 is a little bit bigger (3" screen) but the 70 is very similar to it and smaller (2.5" screen)...

I'd go with the IXUS 70 due to the size difference as you really dont need all the Megapixels that come with more expensive cameras if you're just taking pictures of friends and stuff, its not like you'll be printing A2 size prints??

Has anyone used the Finepix f31fd? I'm thinking of getting one as my snapper camera and the reviews are almost all excellent. Even experience with a Finepix F30 would be good. I'm almost ready to place the order, just need a little push!
