    Hi,

    My g/f is doing the fe1 irish exam soon. There seems to be only 1 previous paper available online. I know the exam is supposed to be fairly straightforward, but she wants to be prepared.

    so does anyone know where she can get more old exam papers/sample papers?

    Thanks!

    i'm doing it awell at the end of june and got the griffith manual off a friend, which has all the past papers and samples answers and translations etc, so it's a good idea to either get this manual like i did or attend the course,
    my friends tell me that the standard is junior cert and is seriously nothing to be worried about,
    i looked over the past papers this last week and sent the following email to a another friend who also was wondering what the exam involved;

    "basically in the exam firstly u have to write a short essay, u get the choice of four headings, usually something like
    a) a letter to someone famous (e.g mary harney, roy keane, david beckham, bob geldof) b) myself in 10 years c)immigrants in ireland d) a trip i took, i know that sounds kind of hard, but if u dont wanna do that, u have another choice! it's write a review of a book you read for the exam, there' a review done in the manual, just learn it, bob's your uncle!
    then the second pt of the written exam is translate a passage from english to irish and a passage from irish to english
    all the passages come from 4 different publications and in the exam u have the choice of the 4.
    in all there's a total of 13 passages from irish to english and 9 from eng to irish, each passage is no more than about 8 lines,
    so just pick one of the 4 publications and learn the passages from it
    and that's it! think the written exam is super do-able
    the oral exam is 3 minutes long, apparently they'll keep asking u questions till u stumle across something u can talk about"

    hope this helps

    the irish exam is easy, but not as "piss easy" as a lot of people would have you think. i went to an irish grind about a week before the exam and it worked a treat. if you have a younger sibling/cousin etc at school get thier irish notes on school,family,holidays etc as this is generally what they ask in the oral part and of course why you want to be a solicitor, there are always a few standard phrases you can throw in. the exam is 3 hrs and when i did it i would say 90% of people left after 1/1 and half hours... im gonna enquire with friends and see if i can get a hold of the griffith manuals for people. if you get them in the meantime, i would recommend bringing it along to a grind with you so they can go through it with you... you'll be fine, good luck!
