This may have been discussed but it just occured to me

Bens betrayal of his family and his own kind resembles something very close to Anakins betrayal of the Jedi. I know that the writers are serious star wars fans so this could be a homage to Mr. Lucas. Also - the way Ben was converted to the "dark side" was after he had been shown images of his dead mother - another reason for the turning of Anakin to Vader. Also - his mother died in child birth - as did Padme when giving birth to Luke and Leia.

Just spotted my Type o in the title. Apologies to SW fans.

Yeah I noticed this. Lindelof is a huge Star Wars fan and there's been quite a few references thrown in there. They've also compared Jacob to the Emperor.

The two of them are top class bastards. Mefeels a mask and some heavy breathing might be a step too far for Ben though...

I actually was not aware that the writers were star wars fans, but know that you say it i can see what you are talking about in relation to Ben.

i know there are some definite star wars references alright - like the way sawyer always called jin and michael - han and chewy. one reference that cracked me up was in season 1 when they built the raft - and michael shouts at jin -- no no - that goes there - this goes here (or something like it) in direct reference to han and chewy working on the millenium falcon.

but bens story will probably turn out to be a tragic and misguided one - to reflect anakins decent into darkness - and even a possible reconciliation or redemption at the end.
