Video Editing Software?

    Hi,

I've a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC T10 that I use for taking vids (mpg) format of our training sessions. These seem to save in very big files which take an age to upload and are probably killing my bandwidth.

Basically I want some sort of software for my mac that I can transfer these to and then change the bitrate (if that's the right term) to something more managable. I'd also like the option of basic editing like adding in teaching points (If I could pause the vids and then continue play that would be brilliant)

To give you an idea a 3 min clip is 74M, 30 secs working out about 2.5M.

Taking ages to Upload as well with CUTEFTP Mac. I've ntl braodband 3M and I use Airport Express.

    Any help appreciated.

    thanks,
    Colm

that does seem quite high for a little camera..... maybe you can lower the quality on the camera??

other than that download iSquint or ffmpegX and they should both lower the file size by resizing the video.

ffmpegx is a bitch to use properly. I'd recommend VisualHub

    Thanks for the replies guys.

It appears to only have two settings in the video mode: 160 which the screen tells me is for email but looks pretty poor at any sort of decent size, and then 640 (standard) and 640 (fine) for displaying on TV. There's no in between that I can discern.

well then just keep shooting in the highest quality and then downgrade on the mac with ffmpegX etc. its best to have your original in the best quality possible.

74Mb for a 3 minute clip sounds quite reasonable .. you have two choices. The consumer route MiniDV camera .. which will top over 700mb for the same amount of time ..

Currently, for quality and ease of FTP transfer .. Get a quicktime Pro licence Export with a Sorenson codec .. I reckon you could get that 74MB down to at least 1 15Mb file .. Sorenson is a demon of a process, so be prepared to sit watching a progress bar for at least 5* times realtime for any decent results. (* Computer allowing of course)
