Here's my insights on the new shows from the brief clips shown in the previews. Once the pilots come out, it may be a different story:

    EDIT: (Pheeeeeewwww.... big post!)

    Sam I Am -
very short clip. Not very funny but any comedy without the need to use a laughter track intrigues me. Christina Applegate can be quite funny also.

    Cavemen -
i'm willing to give this a go. Very different idea.. it could be atrocious or quite inventive. Won't see a second season and possibly won't see past 8 - 10 episodes but i'll give it a shot.

    Carpoolers -
i really like Jerry O Connell and i like the idea of the show but the tired "married life is like this... mmm-hmm" in the clip just seemed to tread familiar grounds.

    Pushing Daisies -
i really liked this from the short clip we got. Very quirky and doesn't take itself seriously. And with Bryan Fuller as writer (Dead Like Me, Heroes etc.) and Barry Sonnenfield (Men In Black) as director, it's got great people at the helm. Definitely one to watch!

    Private Practice -
i seemed to be the only one who really liked the idea of this Grey's Anatomy spin-off. But with a much more likeable cast than Grey's, it could be enjoyable. It could be horrid too however.

    Dirty Sexy Money -
Good to see Peter Krause again. I wish he was doing a full series to the fantastic mini-series 'The Lost Room' but this clip didn't give us much of an insight into the show. But i assume with the excellent Donald Sutherland featuring, it has something going for it. But do we need another lawyer show?!?

    Big Shots -
Michael Vartan? Now we know where the hell he disappeared to after Alias. Clip was a bit lacklustre to say the least.

    Women's Murder Club -
oh christ... bring back Cagney & Lacey! That was absolutely atrocious. Probably my least favourite of all the clips viewed. Bear in mind, it didn't give much away but the idea alone gives me the willies. Heh heh!

    Cashmere Mafia -
the "wimmins" will eat this up next year. Expect to see it in Network 2's 'Desperate Housewives' - reminded me of 'Sex Of The City' but with "less roidin'"!

    Eli Stone -
i really liked this. Jonny Lee Miller is definitely one of the most under-rated actors out there. The clip showed just enough and George Michael popping up was brillant. The only problem is Lawyer + Hallucinations + Hearing music in head = ALLY MCBEAL!! C'mon, surely the synopsis must have made a few TV execs think "that sounds familiar!". But Jonny Lee Miller is a helluva lot more likeable than Calista Flockhart. I'll definitely keep on eye on this!

    Miss Guided -
"From executive producer Ashton Kutcher"... wait right there while i change the channel, dawg! Whose idea was it to give Judy Greer a leading role in a show? She's a supporting actress. I don't think she can pull this show off. Some bits in the clip made me smile but the whole mashing together montage of clips complaining just has been done to death.

    The Big Bang Theory -
yes, let's make fun of geeks. How many jokes in the first season will revolve around (a) Battlestar Galactica (b) The X-Files (c) Porn (d) Virtual Girlfriends (e) Blogs (f) Star-Wars Kid.... yes, it was really awful! Everything i'd expect from mainsteam American comedy.

    Cane -
good cast and seems like something will have to fill The Soprano's void next year, could be good or could be awful. Definitely on the fence with this one.

    Kid Nation -
shouldn't these kids be getting a good education in schools instead of taking part in daft reality TV? What are they really expecting from this - Lord Of The Flies?! Switched it off after 2 minutes cos the kids seemed like they were reading from scripts. "This is our world!!!" - give me a break!

    Moonlight -
was all a bit daft. CGI was awful - it may improve in the final pilot nonetheless. But a romantic thriller with vampires - hmmmmmmmm... sounds vaguely familiar.

    Viva Laughlin -
i really liked this mainly becuase it was so different. And enjoyable too so that might just work to it's advantage. I normally hate Hugh Jackman but could be a turning point in his career if he pulls this off. Definitely worth keeping an eye on also.

    Aliens In America -
advance reviews of this have been very positive. Got mixed opinions about the clips. The cast just don't seem all that convincing but again, a comedy without a laugh-track intrigues me.

    Reaper -
probably the pilot i'm most looking forward to. Simply because it's being directed by one of my favourite film-makers Kevin Smith. When i first heard the premise of the show, i thought it'd be quite darker than it appeared in the clips. But i think Ray Wise has been criminally over-looked - even more-so when rewatching his performance in Twin Peaks way back in the early 90's. Could be good - clips whet my appetitie for more anyways.

    Gossip Girl -
Girlfriend made me watch this. From creator of The OC, it was simply 'The OC' with four wretched looking teenagers who voices and mannerisms made we wanna my tear my skin off. And the line about "who'll win the battle of the 2 hotties?"... KILL ME NOW!!!! (ah.. no, i really loved it!)

    Life Wild -
oh my, it's Dora The Explorer but it's lost all colour and imagination. And what's this? It's live-action and has the appearance of 7th Heaven mixed with Born Free. Absolutely atrocious!

    K-Ville -
Looks good actually. The director of this has directed some great episodes of House and Lost. The show looks like it could have all the characteristics of a good cop show - could have good chemistry between leads and be quite gritty. And had Ethan from 'Lost' in the final clip - wahey!

    New Amsterdam -
Pass... it all seemed a bit hokey to put it bluntley. Eternal life until you find the women, your souls will wed and you will feel it in your heart. Pffftt!

    Back To You -
Kelsey Grammar is hilarious.. and the clips had one or two funny moments. But we really don't need another news-anchor comedy, do we? Not classy enough to be a Frasier however.

The Return Of Jezebel James -
From the creator of one of my guilty pleasures 'Gilmore Girls, it's creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has a new comedy starring Parker Posey. And what set the Gilmore Girls apart from other shows was (a) the hilarious Lauren Graham and (b) the very witty dialogue. This suffered from a distinct lack of witty dialogue and an awful laugh-track.

    Canterbury's Law -
Can't stand Julianna Margulies and the three clips didn't really do much for me. It could be OK though providing it stays somewhat different as we have enough lawyer shows - we don't need one with an irritating lead.

    The Sarah Connor Chronicles -
This could be good. Providing they don't ham it up, have a relatively big budget for the action and stay too somewhat faithful to the films. They should play around with the trilogy a bit.

The Rules For Starting Over -
If it keeps quite daft ("whassup playa?"), this could be very very funny. And mmmmmmmm... Karen from 'The Office'

    Journeyman -
Clip didn't tell us enough to warrant an opinion at all. I like the idea of this time-travel stuff though so i'll keep an eye on it

    Chuck -
Like 'The Rules'.. if it's stay daft, it could be very funny. And i did laugh once or twice. Most promising comedy so far!

    Bionic Woman -
Not a bad little clip but Michelle Ryan will be the deciding factor in the show. Being such an annoying fecker on Eastenders will be hard to see past but hopefully they'll do a good show with this and she needs to really put a lot of work into the character.

    Life -
Damian Lewis is fantastic.. another actor who i think is amazingly under-rated. And the synopsis of the show sounds very interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this.

    Lipstick Jungle -
Eeeeuuggghhh... it's 'Sex And The City 2: Still Slutty'. Even the chatting and quabbling over a restaurant table seemed all too familiar. And shocker, it's from the same author as 'Sex And The City'. Expect the wimmins to love this also!

    My ones to watch:
    • Reaper
    • Chuck
    • Viva Laughlin
    • Pushing Daisies
    • Eli Stone
    • Life
    • Bionic Woman

Women's Murder Club hope this gets a good run as a fan of James patterson read the Lindsay boxer books and found them good reads but Novel to small screen who knows.

Just looked at "The Return Of Jezebel James" and that laugh track is just sooooo irritating, can't imagine myself watching an entire episode.
I really like the idea of "Private Practice" and the preview wasn't bad but didn't grab me.
Nice to see Julianna Margulies back in "Canterbury's Law" just hope is not just another show about lawyers.

Strange to see Hugh Jackman doing tv.....his career is going pretty strong still on stage and the big sscreen.

Journeyman seems to be Quantum Leap redux

Sarah Connor Chronicles could be decent.

The clips ive seen of the Bionic Woman are so-so. Im not sure the lead looks 'plausible' in her action scenes (whereas we know from BSG that Katee Sackhoff can do that stuff fairly well). Need to see more to make up my mind..

I weep for the future of TV. An unmitigated stream of crud. Maybe two watchable things in there if you had a lot of drugs to dull the edge.

As opposed to what year? When was the last time there were more than 2 quality programmes introduced? Some take a while to get into their rhythm and we'll just have to wait and see.

Don't get me wrong, there's loads there I wouldn't even bother watching the clips of (Cavemen...) but if you get 1 quality TV programme out of the new US shows, you're doing OK

I really like the look of Cane and K-ville. Something to look forward to.

Jesus Basq you have a lot of patience.

About three years back - Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, The 4400, The Office, Veronica Mars...

IMO there hasn't been a good new series that has survived a full season since Prison Break.

Indeed, methinks its time he had his own Variety Show called as such!
