1, 2, 4 and to a certain extent 5 are too dark. nice shots, though.

the sky in the last looks as if it's been added in. it looks awful.

Dark?? I think someones monitor needs adjusting ;)

Technically excellent Conor though I've gone off the dreamy long exposure watery shots a bit lately. That said I've never taken any and wouldn't mind giving it a bash.

I shot these out in the little coves up on bray head with my 20d and the 16-35mm canon lens.I got up at 3:45 to be there in time .They look fine as regards brightness on my moinitor here in the gaff. It's a brand new monitor and i've calibrated it as far as gamma and white and black points are concerned.I'll be getting a loan of a spyder tonight, i hope !! The last one is a composite, I'm just learning that kinda stuff at the moment. I know it looks weird, but thats what i liked about it :) . Thanks to all for taking the time to view and for the feedback too. Conor.

They were all shot with lee ND grads and over exposed by one stop. Then I used curves and levels to bring down highlights and boost the shadows to where I wanted them. If any of you have been to Guy Gowan's seminars then you'll know what i mean. works a treat except in extreme lighting conditions. I'm just experimenting really , trying to find a consistent method of getting what I see and feel.

Great stuff, if only I could drag my arse out of bed at that hour. Then again getting out of bed is one thing, being able to produce something like this is entirely another!

Love the shots. Can you give us some sample exposure details such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc. I would like to learn how to do these kinda shots. Ta, JP

No problem. I usually try to keep the aperature at around F16 for these type of shots but as it gets brighter I will go up to f22. You can use hyperfocal distancing focusing but I have found that a different technique produces as good, if not better sharpness from front to back. I'm usally working in the dark so this method called infinity focusing is very handy. You just focus on infinity basically, and with the high aperture, you get a sharp image. The shot will look out of focus as you look thru the viewfinder but don't worry, as you can see, the final image is sharp. These shots were taken at iso 200, but that was a mistake on my part. I usually go up the iso's in av mode untill I get a correct exposure reading from the cams light meter. then i take note of the shutter speed. Then, in my head, i calculate what the shutter speed should be at iso 100.then I go back into manual and set the iso back to 100 and set the shutter speed. usually, it's over 30 secs for these type of shots so i go into bulb mode and use the remote timer to tell the shutter how long to stay open for. Oh, an I use mirror lock up as well. Now , i'm pretty sure there is a much better, more precise way of doing this.Perhaps you use a hand held spot meter so if anyone knows , let ME know as i haven't gotten around to researching it yet.I've also recently gotten Lee ND grads as well so they were used here also but I'm still very much in the early learning stage as regards using those.
So just as an example, that first shot there was taken at f20 , 30 secs and Iso 200, the second was f22 , 13 secs and iso200 also.Regards,Conor.

A shovel with a gas cylinder on the end of it and a hose pipe attachment. Also a polarising filter I think.

It was a perfectly valid question in all fairness .I'm quite surprised to see such an unhelpful and unecessary comment coming from a "Moderator" .
