El Stuntman is next up according to this thread, but because he is away at the moment, I'll skip him for now and move onto Hectorjelly.

    Same Rules:

There can be NO flaming, this isn't a chance for people to have a shot at who ever goes in. Entrants to the Deconstructing series will have their thick skins on but forum rule breaches will be dealt swiftly and harshly with by a 1 week ban, so you have all been warned.

Just to spell it out: NO PERSONAL ATTACKS, criticise and critique his game and NOTHING else!

Keep it constructive and good luck Hectorjelly.

Very capable player, technically one of the best around id imagine and a purist's poker player. Would love to see him take his chance in some of the bigger more high profile tourneys (such as the irish open etc) however. He has already prooved his capabilities in winning the first boards 200 tourney amongst a very good lineup. No reason why he could not win some of the big tourneys (and a massive pay-day to boot) imho

Ive only played with you live (apart from one time online;) ) and as far as your live tourney play goes i only have cosmetic criticism..

    - when you attempt to steal/resteal and the other guys comes back over the top of you again you should refrain from auto mucking - its no harm to put on a show for a few seconds to make it look like your laying down something other than 58o. I recall this a few times in the SE games and I also recall Sidshow giving you the "do you really like it" fist pumping treatment in Waaaturfurd when you automucked to his RR. Table Image!!

    - similarly I noticed that you tend to bet round numbers when you are willing to go to war but will bet random numbers when you are stealing/restealing. I recall one Thursday night 100DC in the SE and you were betting 9k to raise and you bet 9,250 to steal or something similar. (not exact numbers but Im sure you got my drift?) >> maybe this isnt the case but I noticed it on this occasion.

    - I have other things but il add them next week in case you are on my table this weekend in Drogheda. :D

what the hell kind of grey jacket were you wearing in Drogheda. A Nehru collar? What were you thinking!

    Hey Daragh,

We've only played together once during a festival in Waterford and the game was PLO. We were short handed and I thought you may have been a little to selective with cards and fold too easy when in position to me. Honestly, if you never folded a hand in position HU or 3 handed, you wouldn't be wrong. Other than that, I found you very plesant and friendly.

ill echo noel about the auto fold. make the player sweat a little, its not online and it'l help your table image.

In cash games, when some idiot gets lucky against you, you can sometimes go on tilt and easily stack off in the next few rounds of the table. I've seen you reload 4 or 5 times before and get it all in with AJ or the likes. This is not an easy thing to fix.

Thanks a lot for all the comments,

Re tilt, yes this is by far my biggest flaw. I should probably consult a psychologist

As per omaha, I was playing a game im not really familiar with, against a very good player, so I was erring on the side of caution. Maybe too much though!

Doc - that was a chinese style collar, all the rage in pakistan

BCB - Bet sixing, I hope this hasnt been the case, but I will make sure its not in future anyway

Lastly the quick hand mucking, im going to have a long think about it. One of my main gripes with live poker is the amount of time people waste, and i really hate when people do it when they have already made their decision. Its very rare that I need to think about any decision for a while, but when I do I like to spend a good while on it (one of the plus points of live play!), so I always like to think ive built up enough "timing" good will so that no-one will call the clock on me. This could well be pretty silly though.

yeah I don't think you need to Hollywood like a wanker when you have an obvious fold. Everyone knows you are stealing some of the time so just muck the cards and get to the next hand faster.

Im not suggesting that HJ hollywood it, but ive seen him muck before the dealer has even glanced your direction. A few seconds wont kill anybody.

I dont really see the need for the hollywood either, what hand are you representing that needs a few seconds thought, just because you know its an autofold doesnt mean you were on a complete steal.

I totally get your point here. I get so impatient in live play when people spend aaages pretending they are thinking. 5 secs, maybe 10 , is enough to get the message across.

Nothing is more annoying though than when the clock is called, and the player then decides to use the full 60 seconds just to ‘spite’ the clock caller. I’d be inclined to complain if I’m not involved in the hand!

    Thats the two extremes ^^^^^

When you raise and the next guy re-raises, by the time a whole orbit of the table gets around or even 30 sec/1 min, most good players know what their next action will be. But by pausing and having a think about it, might mean an observant player at the table puts u on KQ or QJ, instead of what now looks like 85o. I hate the hollywood acting too - but even 10 seconds makes a difference - esp if it means someone at the table is going to "chase the bluffer" (all well in good if you know he's doing it, but not nice in say the SE when you have to wait on good cards as opposed to floating a bit and outplaying these guys)

10 seconds is an enormous amount of time to take over a simple decision at the poker table, and it's really gay when someone wants to do this every time so that people don't think they were at it. If everyone took minimum ten seconds then I guess we would get about 1/3 less hands. 1 to 2 seconds is a good amount of time to spend over a decision like this.

edit: I don't really want to derail this thread, I haven't played with Daragh very much but it's fairly clear what I think on this issue.

I don't know who Daragh is - perhaps I've seen / played with / met him at live events, but I'm not sure.

But I can say this: Whenever I am reading hand analyses on boards, I always seek out and pay attention to what HectorJelly has to say ahead of anyone else (and there are several others who I would respect). I don't know if that means that I think that you're the best player here, HJ, but your advice always seems well considered to me and describes the way that I would aspire to play.

    How's that for a** kissin? :p
