Birds in house!

    Hi,

I am quite worried about something and I need your advice.

I came home from work on Tuesday 8th May, opened the kitchen door to find a large black bird flying around the kitchen. I identified this bird as a Starling. All windows and doors were closed and it was not there that morning. I have no idea how it got there. I proceeded to open a door and let it out. Not nice...but forgot about it.

However, this morning, as I came downstairs, I heard more fluttering and lo and behold another bird, of the exact same type is in my LIVING ROOM, flying at the glass door which leads outside onto the patio. Again, I was quite scared and let it out. I do not know where these birds are coming from, how they are getting into the house and I would like to know is this symbolising something? I live with a housemate and her wee child.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi miketheman,

just a thought but do you have open fireplaces? They might have come through the chimney. Another possibility would be an open cat flap if you have one.

    Just a thought.

    Best,
    P.

    Hi! Thanks for the reply.
No cat flap and the fireplace is completely boarded up. Windows and doors are secure.
I just find it odd that I have never seen this happening before, but yet this is the second time in 2 weeks it has occurred.

I have a closed off gas fireplace but they still manage to get into our house too!!! don't worry too much, they can fit through teensy spaces.
Whenever I open the tiny hatch on my budgies cage (about 1/4 of his size) to replace his food he somehow manages to fly through!
    :)

The starlings could easily have come through a vent Mike. I would have your place checked out as there may be a nest of them.

In Maori culture, if a Fantail flies into the home it means there may be a death in the family  Wouldn't worry too much if you are not Maori and there are no fantails in your house :)

birds getting into houses is very common, happened to me,a bird got into our house even though everything was locked, just walk around the exterior of your house and look for openings,no matter how small and block them or put netting over them is a better idea, they are probably getting into your house through the ventilation since your fireplace is closed up,dont worry bout it,worst thing they can do is crap all over your good furniture lol

On the Subject of birds, I just thought i'd post this ..
Sounds a bit crazy at first but read on :)

    My Grandfather died 13 years ago , when i was 6 .
He was very interested in old Farm antiques ,and as i grew older i got an interest aswell

When i was about 14 , i got my very own piece of old farm machinery (an engine) .
And the very first day i got it ,and was out in the shed fixing it , a bird flew in , sat on the bench and flew straight out again .
I mentioned it to my dad , and he said its probabally your granda coming in to see how your getting on !

Then about a year later , i aquired another engine and was working on it ,when a bird flew in , and sat on the floor for about 15 seconds and flew back out.

It happend a third time last year , and i like to think of it as my granda watching over me, in a hobby that we both never got to share together unfortunatly .

Anyone ever experience anything like it

    John

Yeah, I was talking to a guy one time and he was telling us that just after his granny died, the family were all sitting down for dinner and left her seat empty. Just then a Robin flew in and stayed there on her seat for a short while and then flew off again. Shortly after this story was told, a little robin landed on the bush beside him! It was lovely :)
