Camping in Wicklow

    Hi everyone,

Am planning a camping trip at the mo for 2 joint birthdays. There will be between 15-20 of us in total and we are looking to camp somewhere in Wicklow for a night the weekend after the June bank holiday weekend. We ideally want a field / forest area that we won't get in trouble for camping on, as we know that official campsites have curfews etc and we won't be able to chill out with our beers beyond 10pm or whatever. Any suggestions? not sure how to distinguish between private / public land areas (apart from farms etc obviously) - is it legal to camp in the dublin/wicklow mountains?
any ideas or advice much appreciated, thanks very much!! :)

Ah well, I guess it had to come sooner or later. Yes folk, it's knacker drinking season. Come one, come all for a weekend of ruining a beautiful wilderness. Bring your Tesco's tents, Dutch Gold and naggins, and enjoy the fresh scent of burned trees and gorse, unburied human excrement and vomit. Yes folks, you too can enjoy the thrill of living like a pikey for just one night this season....

When you're finished feeling hot and bothered by my response, go begin your education here:

You might also note that there are many areas of Wicklow frequently ruined by people and groups like yours. Thankfully, the Gardaí are now taking these matters very seriously and are responding with the parks service when they're notified of 'wild camping' where a campfire has been lit - Be warned, as I'm not the only person who'll be out on the hills that weekend with mobile phone to alert the authorities....

You don't know the first thing about wild camping I'd guess (or you wouldn't be asking where you can go) and don't even think about trying to suggest a group of 15-20 of you will respect the wilderness we all enjoy. There are bound to be a few who will light a big fire, cut down a tree, sh1t by a river bank etc.

Why don't you just have a house party? No, really, why don't you just have a house party instead? Or go rent a holiday house somewhere for the weekend?

TBH this forum is dedicated to the pursuit of outdoor recreational activites. Not knacker drinking so I'm locking this.

The forum updated to reflect the new rule regarding threads like this, could everybody please have a read of it? If you see any threads breaking the rules then please use the report post icon -> report.gif. Thanks.
