Seeing as there is a thread movement here, I thought I'd drag the discussion up a gen, to the N64.
How many of you have one and what games have you got, which were your favourites, even if you don't have one anymore, for shame!

    I've a bit of a list, but the best are;
    Mario64
    DiddyKongRacing
    Blastcorps
    Starfox64
    Jet Force Gemini
    Banjo Kazooie/Tooie
    Goldeneye
    1080 Snowboarding
    Waverace64
    Star Wars Pod Racer
    Rogue Squadron
    Zelda OOT/MM

I have a fairly complete collection of everything I ever wanted on the console, they are just a couple of my faves.

Never had a N64, I'd still love one though but ebay's p&p really is a bastard for these types of items.

Played Goldeneye with a friend over in England and it was brilliant.

Another friend of mine had one and I played it a few times, love the controller.

My least liked Nintendo console. I don't know if it is the controller or what, but something really bugs me about it. Most of the games I picked up in a large Cash Converters lot. (Which explains the amount of racing titles!)

    Extreme G
    Starwars Rogue Squadron
    Yoshi's Story
    Goldeneye
    International Superstar Soccer 64
    F1 Pole Pision 64
    Fifa 99
    F1 Grand Prix
    Lylat Wars
    Turok
    Turok 2
    Zelda Ocarina of Time
    Wave Race 64
    Killer Instinct
    Super Mario 64
    V-Rally 64
    Pokemon Stadium
    Top Gear Overdrive
    Mario Kart 64
    Star Wars Racer
    Top Gear Ralley
    Lamborghini

    !!
It's a horribly put together mess. They put the analog stick in the wrong place. It should be where the D pad is. Because of this and the center "handle" bit comes lower, you end up holding the thing at a weird angle. The analog stick is too small and has rubbish grip to it. Ah, so many things wrong with it. Give me the Playstation 1 controller any day over it.

The best console of all time. So many great games. unsung classics like Mario Tennis and WWF no mercy to the greatest game in the world, Goldeneye (or is that Zelda??) and the controller was pure sex apart from when you played Turok

I still have my N64 with:
    - Ocarina of Time
    - Goldeneye
    - Jet Force Gemini
    - F-Zero
    - Mario 64
    - Majora's Mask

However crummy the joypad was (I agree BTW) the N64 could only have had one game released and it would still have held a special place in my heart. That one game of course is Ocarina of Time.

The Ps1 controller was a mess, even the dual shock that is still around is terrible. I thought the N64 controller was fantastic. The only problem I have is that the analogue stick is rather flimsy and easy to break.

So you have no problem with the misaligned way you have to hold the n64 pad when using the analog stick? That drives me insane. Not to mention the fact it's too high and your finger can slip off very easily. (Well, mine does for some reason)
I would think the analog stick being flimsy would take it down several notches from being considered fantastic.

It's just too big and clunky. Even the rumble paks were huge and needed batteries. No need for something of that size. It was a shame as it really ruined some classic games for me.

I've recently been playing some n64 games with a Playstation dual analog stick clone controller. I didn't think Lylat Wars could be any more fun. I was wrong.

I love my n64. still have a press full of games, about 20-25 I think. Some of my favs were:

    Mario kart
    Goldeneye
    Perfect dark (oh yeah)
Wwf attitude (best wrestling game ever)
    Mario 64
    Blast corps
    Banjo
    yoshis story

The controller was perfect except for one thing - trying to get those pesky memory packs out of them! They were tough.

    great console though.

Just remembered the Best thing about the 64. The Z button and it's use in Zelda. Genius

**** that! it's best use was in Goldeneye as your fire button, the fact it worked the same as a gun trigger was a great idea!

oh and Perfect Dark paled in comaprisson to Goldeneye, it just didn't have something Goldeneye did, I dont know what it was tho...

    Bwaaah??

WWF Attitude the best wrestling game ever?! Surely you mean No Mercy...?
I have to add Majoras Mask to the "Best of" list, that was a criminally under appreciated title. Oni Link ftw.

Great console, but regarding the joypad, it's tough to beat either the Dreamcast controller or the Xbox 360 controller which drew a lot of inspiration from the DC pad.

One thing I really hated about the N64 controller, was when you were having a good gaming session and your hands would get a little sweaty, my thumb would keep slipping off the stick. Plus the C buttons were too close together.

Never had the N64, my cousin had, though I may have played around with Project 64.

Ooops, I certainly did mean No Mercy, thanks for pointing that out. And you're totally right about Majora's mask, that was a truly excellent game, I never had it for the N64 though, I had it for the gamecube.

Wow I had totally forgotten about Oni Link. Majora's Mask was very good, if a bit odd.

    <*spoiler alert*>
The final level on the Moon itself was trippy, with the whole blur effect thing going on. Loved that.

If they have Oni Link, or even just an Oni Link costume in the new Smash Bros., I'll have to give Nintendo one of my Souls as thanks. Probably the first Soul Calibur...

Pilot Wings 64, the game that, before GTAIII, made wandering around going sweet feck all, enjoying scenery and your mastery of the vehicles, wasted so many hours on that game, beautiful.
Its the one I don't want an update of, for fear of them screwing it up.
Loved that hangglider dive down the ravine in the arctic enviroment, sweet!

The true predecessor to GTA3 was Body Harvest on the N64. It was even made by DMA, the crowd that originally made the very 1st GTA game ever, and in my opinion, the best GTA game on any platform to date (Grand Theft Auto on the PC). Strangly most peolpe have never heard of Body Harvest which is a pity because its a fantastic game.

Still have mine too. Some of the most under rated games on any platform were released on the N64, and some of the best games too. I had about 30 games but can't remember them all....here's some of the ones i had:

    Lylat Wars
Space Station Silicon Valley (1 of the most original games ever)
    Body Harvest
    Jet Force Gemini
    Top Gear Rally 2
    GT Racing 64
    Goldeneye
    Perfect Dark
    Diddy Kong Racing
    Turok 2
    Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    ISS 98
    Vigilante 8

DMA are still making the GTA games, they just changed their name to Rockstar North. They are also responsible for space station silicon valley.

Have Bodyharvest, never liked it, I know gameplay is everything and the story is great but the game just looks terrible, as for the first GTA being the best, I had it on PC and PS1 and sorry, it was great and the best thing ever until GTAIII came out, then that was that, and no game has ever seemed the same since, in fact the likes of Saints Row and perhaps even GTASA has been trying to recapture that gangster vibe since, but to no avail, it looks like GTAIV could be a return to form for the series, a contemporary setting, big city, mafia, nice.
As for N64 games, I always had a soft spot for Glover and Beetle Adventure Racing, the former is like a cross between Marble Madness and Mario64 and the latter feels like a Need For Speed title that was converted into a license at the last minute, but is still a hoot none the less, certainly beats the Top Gear series hands down.
Must pop on DK64 again, see if I can follow what i'm supposed to be doing this time!

Mafia on the PC was alot better than GTA3. They started development the same time as GTA (in fact i think it was slightly before) but the game got delayed by a year, hence the reason it came out after GTA3. The story had depth and the characters were believable. The missions made sense (no 'kill 50 people in 30 seconds' crap, ala GTA), car physics were a much higher standard, graphics were miles nicer, and the overall level of detail was higher e.g. tires could be shot out, windows smashed, car panels dented (where you hit, not overall generic damage), the cars needed fuel to run (you could fill up at petrol stations). The city was also alot more realistic, you got pulled over by police for speeding or for running red lights, and they didnt aimlessly ram your car to pieces or shoot you dead for it like in GTA, they reacted relistically to the crime eg. walking calmly up to your car after you pulled in and handing you a speeding ticket through the window. And you could drive out of the city into the country side... it was superior to GTA in every way. Its still up there with 1 of my fav games of all times, on any platform and for anyone who never played it, its only 10 euro or something stupid in any games shop, still well worth buying.
