Someone just started a thread about "boardsies". And being in that sort of mood, I googled the word. And this was the first result that came up:

    http://www.*************/

They refer to themselves as "Boards Ireland". Their forum categories and overall appearance are strikingly close to ours. They have forums like Personal Issues, Rip-off Ireland and such. What gives? Is there an affiliation? Is there a boards.ie dark side I wasn't aware of??

wut. Even teh goog is letting me down. Can someone tell us whats going on here?

Edit: Bahah, got it. I don't know why it was added to the swear word filter, anyone that feels the need to capitalise Ireland halfway through isn't a threat to anyone except maybe fellow travelling street people and unwary alley cats.

More editing: Its apparently down now, what with the strain on the server of a couple of interested mods and me.

Not only is it an aesthetic disgrace, it also seems to want to try and shut itself down
With the implementation of vBulletin 3-6-6 come more possabilities.
We are considering adding a downloads/sharing database that would allow users to upload/download & share files with others.
For this to work & prevent leeching this area of the site would be limited to certain users. For this purpose & to cover the additional charge we are suggesting a small subscription (say €10 a year)
We are meerly covering addition hosting memory that this will require.
I promise this will be well worth it for what will be available.

A completel non-entity. Don't give it any more advertising.

Most of the posts look fake, were they scraped from another site? As far as the look and feel goes though, I have to disagree. It looks better than boards, with the exception of the see through menu... but it will never succeed, too hard to get the url known. Does show you how easy it to set up a discussion forum though. Register the domain, install the free s/w and bobs your uncle... Not so easy to get people to visit.

vBulletin isn't free. It's anything from $85 upwards depending on licence. Not that expensive though.

Getting the visitors though is as you say, not as easy.

Anyone else find it a little offensive that the swear filter blocks the address?

Maybe offensive isn't the word I'm looking for, but it doesn't seem right to me.

It looks as similar to boards.ie as boards.ie does to rte.ie. FACT.
Let them at it, they will just dwindle off and die I would imagine. Binomate seems into his invasions though, didn't he also want to "invade" thumped.com a while back? Live and let live. If the site offers something that boards.ie doesn't then whats wrong with that? Be happy with what you have, it takes nothing from this site.

I don't recall wanting to invade thumped.com. This site is pretty old. I remember seeing threads about it before, and the only reason it looks marginally different now is because they were aware of the thread on boards.ie pointing out that it was a blatant copy of boards, and they don't have the development funds that boards.ie has to improve their website.

i think boards is great, i just think it has waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many sub forums, its gotten to the point where every thread in AH could be posted in a different sub forum
