Whichever one you can do 4 times a week without getting pissed off with it.

    I like swimming. Yaay, swimming.

Resistance training 3 times a week should lower bodyfat and increased the "toned" appearance. Basically go to gym and they will give you a weight lifting resistance exercise to do 2/3 times a week. Improve diet too. Higher protein diet leads to more lean muscle and less bodyfat.

For this, diet is more important.

Reduce over calories, reduce carbs and increase good fats. Keep your protein levels high.

Then just stick to lots of heavy compound lifts 3-4 times a week, and the weight will fall off you! You can also through some interval work in there if you like. But diet is the key.

    .

No doubt diet is important but to say it's the singularly most important thing just isn't true.

For people who are already carrying a significant of muscle mass, they can get by on dieting alone to lose weight because of their higher metabolism (coupled wit the fact that since they have muscle they obviously spend some time in the gym, ie physical exercise)

Changing your diet is only goign to do so much for somebody looking to lose weight. Some form of resistance training and cardio needs to be in place too. Even forgetting the appearance benefit it will be good for your heart etc too.
