DSL Microfilters for Sky boxes.

Does anybody know why an individual filter has to be fitted to the line from each box? I have often tried just splitting off the phone output side of a filter but callback fails 9 times out of 10.
I know a filter is a low-pass for phone and modem use, I just don't see why this cannot be split.
Also where can I buy quantities of filters at reasonable prices. My main Irish supplier doesn't do them, and my other suppliers are in the UK and supply BT jack type rather than RJ11.
Google and ebay did not help apart from some in the states who want a fortune for shipping.

I have the filter into the phone box. I then have a splitter in the filter and the sky box is connected to one output from the splitter. 4 months now and no letters from Sky yet as its multiroom so assume no callbacks failing.
