Agency/Apply Direct question

Quick question regarding applying for a job via an agency and directly.

A couple of months ago I noticed a job on a the irishjobs.ie website that
sounded ideal for the type of work I was looking for.

I applied to the agency who advertised the position. They contacted me
about the role saying they'd reviewed my CV and I was perfect for the job and it
looked good for getting called for interview soon. I asked for the specifics
of the job details and location as the description on the web was fairly
general but they could give no information at all. They couldn't tell me
anything about the company or role and it sounded as if they actually knew
nothing about it, apart from they were looking for someone.

They said they'd be in contact in a week or 2 to organise interview etc, but
there was no contact made. After a few weeks I tried contacting them and
got voicemail after voicemail. Eventually got through to the agent who said
I look good for interview, had all the required skills and experience etc, but
the actual company in question had not responded to them at all. At this
stage they told me the name of the company.

Weeks went by and I thought nothing more about it until this week.
While browsing another jobs site I noticed that the company in question
were now advertising directly for the position the agency had described.
Only difference is that the skills set they were looking for differ a bit from
what I'd been told. Now from reading their required skills set I wouldnt be
perfect for the job but I'd be close to it (I think anyway), or at least if I
thought I had a shot at it I'd brush up my skills to meet the requirements.

Really want to move from current job for a few reasons. Location would be
important if I move jobs which is why when this particular job was advertised
I thought it was the perfect chance to get out of the rut I'm currently in as
    its locally based.

Question is : if they already seen my cv via the agency and havent
responded would it be pointless of me to apply direct?

Reason I ask is that I have little or no confidence in the agency so I dont
know if my cv was even passed on! The agency rarely answer my calls, never
return them and the odd time I've got to speak with someone they seem fairly disorganised and clueless!

Any advice on what I should/could do?

    Hi

Sounds like the recruitment agency are either a) not really that close to the hiring co., b) have fallen out with them, or c) complete morons......

Either ways you have nothing to lose - I would recommend ringing the companys' HR dept and saying you are unsure if they have received your CV and could they check as you want to be considered for job xyz. Worst case they say your not suitable (which is better than not knowing)

What type of job is it?

    FH
