    Hi there,

Does anyone here work for the Department of the Environment or a similar section in a County Council?

I was just wondering what the minimum qualification they would consider is for an Environmental based job?

I am an IT Grad from 2002 and was considering doing a Level 2 Open University Course 'Energy for a Sustainable Future' and then hopefully a 1 year M.SC in Environmental Sciences from TCD.

I haven't really thought about what I'd like to do with these qualifications when I finish, but I wanted to study something that interested me (for a change). I just want to know whether or not I'd be wasting my time trying to get a Public job if all they consider are full Environmental Science degrees.

    Thanks!

Edit: I haven't had any government jobs before, and I don't have any relevant Environmental experience!

    Hi Glowing,

I work in the deparment of the Environment, the best advice I can offer you is to email natureconservation@environ.ie. Include your cv and a bit about you're background. You would have to be employed on a contract basis if you were looking for a job - also the environment is fairly big portfolio of things so it depends on what subsections you are interested in.

Usually speaking you may not need an environmental science degree I know plenty of people in the Department who have various related degrees such as agricultural sciences etc.... again as I say it depends what subsection you would like to pursue

    Hope that helps.

If u need any more info. PM me.
