    hi,

unfortunately, only after about 100 bb's my brand spanking new G&G CQB S stopped...judging from what happened i think it is simply a loose cable and to be fair G&G said they would replace any part if it is a part like the motor that is busted...unfortunatey i am gutted cos i was all setup to go this saturday and impress the bejesus oout of everyone (as a target obviously)...but not much point going to sing 'kumbaya' or pleading 'why cant we all just get along'...

    anyway i digress...

since i will have to strip this puppy down, and i have a bit of knowledlge on the internals, i.e. the main bits...i was wondering, has anyone ever come across a book on steps to upgrading, replacing all the wearable seals etc, upgrading to metal etc...i cant find anything, and i suspect there isnt really any, but perhaps someone has come across something? i understand they are all different but the mechanics are generally speaking the same.

by the way i was using the tracer rounds, all i can say is they are friggen amazing at night...also i did find you can now get green and orange and you can get bio degradeable ones also...

There are a lot of technical articles at Arnies .

A lot of them are for specific brands, but theres quite a few general articles too if I remember correctly.

    where you based dude?

if you're around dublin during the day drop me a line and i might be able to have a look at it for you.

mecbox.com has some good dis/re assembly videos if they have one for your aeg, normally they use TM, but most other brands are pretty similar

there's also the airsoft press ebooks, think redwolf do them

I think you should just send it off to them, if you open it up you run the risk of voiding any warrenty and , if you're like me, damaging it some more,

    LOL Too late!

well to be fair G&G told me too, but as you say that wont mean a helluva lot if the crapole hits the fan. the good news is it was very easy. of course i still have to put the bugger back together that is when the fun really starts.

this leads me to the question i have now ==

the wiring looks okay , no frayed parts, nothing badly connected (still have one step to go to prove it.

ANYONE know how you test a motor? is it okay to just wire positive to positive or is that a really bad idea?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

to make sure the motor still turns? yea just go ahead and connect the terminals to the motor and the battery to the other end

even if you get the polarity wrong, it just means the motor will turn backwards, just make sure the polarity is correct when you put it back in the gearbox cos otherwise your gearbox will lock up

if the motor turns on it's own, try putting it back into the gearbox and see what happens, if it works all well and good, stick the whole thing back together, if it doesnt, listen carefully for any clicks or anything coming from the gearbox, it may have jammed somehow and you might need to open it up

if the gearbox is jammed, before you open it up, try and release the anti-reversal latch with a small screwdriver or paperclip or something, this will unjam the gearbox and you may be able to get everything working again, but odds are if something caused it to jam in the first place, it will happen again. the anti-reversal latch might be a little hard to find if you've never opened a gearbox before. do you know what version gearbox it is?

(of course most of my post you can safely ignore if everything works fine when you put the motor back into the gearbox)

KD, its a G&G version 2. i will test the motor. i might need to buy a multimeter to test the wiring to ensure its okay. so i might have to do a trip to maplins or somewhere tomorrow.

i will test the motor and see what happens.

one other questions, if the gears are jammed, would i still hear something as the motor tries to work. it is an all metel aeg so maybe i wont

thanks again for the help and no i dont know about the gearbox, that is one area im a virgin in... :D

we all are at some stage, only reason im comfortable with gearbox's now is cos i rebuilt my mp5 gearbox about 20 times while trying to get it working again... (and even at that, im only comfortable with that gearbox, have touched my p90 one yet, dont intend to unless it breaks)

anytime the gears (or piston as it turned out to be for me) got jammed in my mp5 gearbox, i would hear a small metal click when i pulled the trigger, but it was very faint and you'd nearly have to have your ear against the gearbox to hear it

whatever you do, dont hold the trigger if it's jammed, youll possibly blow the fuse, burn out the motor, strip the gears or break teeth on the piston, or nothing could happen, it's really a lucky dip, but best not to do it

if the motor works then you dont need to test the wiring, obviously it's working

were there any signs when it stopped working? burning smell, strange noises? or did it just stop firing all of a sudden and that was it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

it just stopped..no sound no nothing, certainly no smell. i just tried the motor...i get nothing -- so i am just going to prove it now by testing with another battery here, just to be sure. in fact originally i thought it was the battery because the crane stocks are a friggen bitch to get in with a battery in place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

well the bad news is it isnt the motor or the wiring...looks like its the gears...crap and double crap...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

well one piece of good news....i got it back together in 10 minutes....suprisingly simple ...KD...did you ever find any web infos on gears before you started...

i have emailed G&G to let them know, i am hoping they will replace the unit for me, because i dont really trust it now in light of what you said.

    thanks again for your patience.

no problem man, it could be just a one-off thing, but something caused the gearbox to jam (if indeed that is the problem, which it sounds like it is)

mechbox.com is pretty handy, shows how to take a gearbox apart and re-assemble it. (version 2 video is here)

the first time you take the gearbox apart it's a bit frightening, i was very wary of the whole thing flying apart under the pressure of the spring, but if you stick a screwdriver in the back of the spring guide to hold the spring in place as you take it apart it really helps, you could also put the entire thing inside a plastic bag as you take it apart, that way if anything does pop out, itll be caught..

anyway, before you go taking it apart, id definately try and get a new gearbox out of G&G, it's the easiest and best solution although it may take a bit longer

thanks KD, i just emailed uncompany and G&G..so heres hoping....

there is a part of me that wants to have a look..i am going to do it sooner or later, so depending on what they say...i might have my hand forced...

i will let you know.. on the positive is the field stripping is by and large incredibly easy..if you wire a plug you can do the maintenance on it...obviously the gears are the core and nightmarish part..i will have a look at the demo you sent..

    thanks again

    Very good video. Good-job KD!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

yes it is excellent video and good find KD! and uncompany have come back and asked me to identify what is busted and they will replace it...i just have to figure how to get it out of the housing now...but its looking good...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

are they saying they will replace the whole gearbox or just the part that's broken inside the gearbox

mechbox.com is quite good, cant remember where i found out about it, it was either on here on asi, they havent updated it in a while though, im hoping they start doing more updates soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

well to be honest i want to remove it and i am waiting for g&g to post on their website how to do that...

i want to see if it rightly knackered or is it just a case of one dodgy piece..but if it proves too difficult i will push for a whole new unit.
