Has it been released yet? Can anyone confirm that the sound issue has been fixed? I really hope it has....

Should be out now, stick in a HD-DVD to promt it.

You're right Ciaran. I thought it would've recognised the software installed from the cd but loaded up a hd-dvd and worked. Now testing the sound and not much difference tbh.

Just tested out Tokyo Drift and yeah the sound is better. I had the settings wrong running through the amp and I didn't need to turn the volume up as much as I used to do.

Well it'll be out in a week on xbox.com so you could get it burned then.

I have tried all my discs on it now and I'm very impressed with the difference.
Well this is what we should have gotten originally :)

I had a problem when I downloaded it, of not noticing much difference, and I went looking in the dashboard audio settings....well the audio adjusts are not in the dashboard but they're changed by pressing the display button when the hddvd starts, you can change it to DTS there.

And another thing, don't forget to change the setting in the disc menu aswell (like in batman begins.....change the language setting to english DTS)

Audio sync issue is fixed too for DTS, well I can't see it, where it was out by a second previously.

    Sound :)

this may seem like a stupid question, but is the hd-dvd drive worth the money? Is the quality much better than regular dvd?

    Thanks

    IMO yes it is.
But in saying that, what size tv do you have, and can it do 1080p?

It'll look good on a good 32in HDTV but it gets better the bigger (& better) the HDTV.

The films are expensive, but I get all of mine from online, HMV etc are a rip off.

what site is best to buy hd dvd films...??

    I get mine from movietyme.com, dvdworldusa.com

Play.com and sendit.com/dvd/list/hd_dvd are OK, better than the shops (hmv, golden discs, etc.), but still not as cheap as the first two.

How much is this HD-DVD player now and is it worth getting? I have a 37" HD TV.

lafors - Do you not get taxed by customs buying from the American sites? MovieStar are renting HD titles now so I'd probably just do it that way anyway.

Dont think you get caught by customs with hd-dvds, unless your ordering more than two. Its still about €200 shop around I'm sure you could get it a little chaeper. If you want to know weather its worth getting have a look at the selection of movies out, see if you'd want to buy any of them? In the looks department, yeah, looks nicer than dvd by a fair bit.

I'd advise getting one if you don't have a PS3, it looks way better than regular DVD on my 40" LCD. On a 37" you'll definately notice a difference.

But check out what films you want to watch becuase some of them won't be available on HD DVD, ie Casino Royale, Donnie Darko, basically anything from Sony or Fox and a few more.

HD DVD have exlcusive rights with Universal so for example King Kong is only available on HD DVD. (rumour has it that they won't bve exclusive for much longer)

As the lads said only ever buy 2 at a time.
Bought about 5 originally from movietyme but they send them seperately :)
I think movietyme will send them from inside the uk now too...haven't got one yet, will order planet earth next week...can't wait :)

Movietyme orders generally come from UK, as they normally have a fair number of "next-day dispatch" titles on hand.
Sometimes you'll find though that pre-ordered new releases originate from the US office....in this case, they are liable for duty if over €22-23, same with any foreign delivery.
I will say though that in all my years of ordering discs from abroad, I have never been billed for duty (except with muitiple courier delivered discs of course), but I'm aware that a lot of people have been noticing a crackdown of late..

I would suggest trying out http://www.dvdworldusa.com, as they not only provide a first-rate service, but they also mark down titles regularly.....more so than Movietyme, but I'd say you'll be safe with either..
As lads have already said, they generally ship titles separately anyway from any of the major suppliers, so you're chances of getting nabbed are relatively small

Has anyone bought The Ultimate Matrix Collection? Does it/ should it work on my PAL 360 HD DVD player?

Should I expect customs to hit me if I buy Matrix and Planet Earth together? It comes to roughly 110 yoyos.

A place like DVD WorldUSA may mark it down on the packaging....or somewhere like Axel Music (maybe Movietyme if its ships from UK office) will ship from within Europe so you'd avoid customs..

Nice set.....haven't tried it on the 360 addon (have standalone), but I've heard it works no issues on the addon from others......you may want to have Live connected up though, just in case there's an update when you insert the disc..

I bought the Planet Earth HD-DVD set from dvdworldusa and it works fine. Came to 70 euros total, no customs charge.

I think its cheaper from amazon.com

u dont get hit with customs charges with amazon delivers from the usa.

Does anyone think the normal dvd player sound is terrible aswell, it really low. Maybe I'm not doing something right, is there a volume control on the xbox interface?

Are you using the optical out?
If not (just the red/white cables) then it could be the volume setting.
Hit the the Guide button, sould be a volume bar then, and then bring the volume up to full.

I'm not saying this works, I've just seen it a bucket load of times on forums.

    I hope it does :)
