The one thing that's pissing me off is smokey. Apparently that won't be answered until the very end though.

Oh, and a thought came into me head today. What was the story with the pillar of black smoke in s1? Like, they didn't use it when they were kidnapping the tailies, did they? Was it all just for dramatic effect?

Yeah, Danielle set the fire to distract the Losties into thinking the Others were coming, giving her time to steal Aaron.

Like Faith said, I'm fairly sure Rousseau lit it. I don't think it's some signal the Others use, Danielle just made that up. So:

Rousseau saw a pillar of smoke before Alex was abducted 16 years ago. Then at the end of season 1 she heard whispers that the Others were coming for "the boy" and assumed they meant Aaron. So she lit the pillar of smoke to get their attention and used it to lure the Losties away from the beach so she could kidnap Aaron and trade him for Alex. It's therefore possible that the pillar of smoke Rousseau saw 16 years earlier was actually Smokey.

However Sayid said there was no footprints around the beacon and it didn't seem like something Rousseau could put together.

I've also heard it suggested that the real Henry Gale lit it (his note said he was going to light a rescue fire). I'm not sure how that fits with the timeline though.

Aye she lit the fire herself to draw the losties too it and to try and steal Aaron. One thing about her that is sticking in my head is the Dynamite. She tok a full box of it. I am thinking she is part of Jack's and Juliet's plan and they have involved her with the promise of getting her daughter back.

I agree on this. I can't see how they'll do a satisfactory explanation as to how all these people, with so many links in their lives prior to the crash, all ended up on the same flight. It beggars belief unless they weren't on the same flight as such, but were brought in a different manner.
I know the writers have fun with these connections but it's going to be hard to do a plausible reason for it that won't be all "it's all a dream/simulation/ dead" answer.

I'm genuinely worried that the big explanation - the visions, Smokey, etc - is going to be poor and probably too metaphysical. Now I'm going to sit through, and probably be entertained, while I await those answers but I've a horrible feeling we'll get "it's the seventh iteration of the island" Architect answer :(

Well considering the heavy super natural elements in the show, maybe it can just be passed off as fate/destiny or whatever? I don't think there has to be a scientific explanation for everything, although I'm sure these connections are something the show will explore further at some point.

Aye but many peoples worries are that there are so many things to be answered that we will not get them all :(.

I just had a look back over IGN's top 50 remaining Lost mysteries the other day. In the few months since it was posted I'd say about half the questions have been more or less answered and a good few more at least partially addressed. Pretty good going in my book.

would people ever bloody stop complainig abotu the lack of answers, its the lack of answers that keeps you hooked

if they were spelling everything out in an ordered fashion on a weekly basis, the show wouldnt have half the appeal

if you want stuff resolved at the end of every episode watch friends

I think it's more the fact that people realise that the show's writers are human and are not going to be able to answer all the questions. I'm afraid it's going to be a case of deus ex machina.

why do we need everything answered?

have people no imagination to draw their own conclusions?

it annoys me the way people need everything given to them on a bloody plate these days

The whole show is about mystery. Expecting people to draw their own conclusions? There just wouldn't be any point in the show then

Well with the connection between all of the characters in LOST, that to me is one of the most important aspects of the show. If i was to get one answer soon from LOST, i would like to know how all of the characters have all crossed paths before meeting on the Island and when they crossed paths they didn't even know it.

It is a major part of LOST and one that will need closure.
