I think it's haunted...

Well I have no idea what really happened but the paranormal was the first thing to spring to mind...
Well it all started last week when i was in my bathroom getting ready for bed (my bathroom is in my bedroom), as i was brushing my teeth i heard a knocking outside on my bedroom door... it was a very deffinate knocking sound and it was on my bedroom door for sure, seeing as my room is the only room on that floor. But i decided i wouldn't answer the door, presuming it was my dad who comes up to my room every now and then just to see how i am, but the door knocked again, and i was still brushing my teeth... it knocked again and i decided I'd clean up and go answer as he obviously wasn't going to go away, so after about 2 minutes and at least 8 knocks, i left my bathrom to go to the door, when i opened the door there was no one there... i presumed that he gave up and went down stairs so i went down to see what the fuss was about... on the way down i heard my little brother mumbling to himself so i went in to see what the problem was... he was complaining that someone had ran into his room because he heard them but he couldn't see anyone come in... i took no notice of it presuming he was just imagining it... so i went down the next flight of stairs to my sitting room to go ask my dad what he had been knocking about and he had no idea what i was talking about... apparently he hadn't gotten up from the couch in the past hour... this is when i started getting scared... so i went and talked to my mam and she hadn't been up knocking on my door... either had my sister... and at this stage my whole family was fairly spooked out..
that night i couldn't sleep, so i stayed up reading and listening to music... my lights flickered twice that night (which they've never done before) and one of my posters fell off the walls which have been there since last summer and have NEVER fallen off... I dunno what you all think but I presume it was a ghost... what do you guys think?
    Tom

Very interesting alright, its great (obvious depending on your point of view) that its a lot of little things as opposed to anything big.

Is there any chance I could ask a few questions, nothing too personal, or would it be ok for me to ask by pm?

    yeah sure, go ahead :)

Ok well what part of Dublin was it (no need to be too specific) and what are the ages of the people in the house. I'm guessing theres nothing spooky about the houe (as in its not too old) and that you've got yourself a 12-15 year old in the house?

it's in the artane-raheny area on the north side of dublin, and the house is fairly old and at least 1 person has died in the house, possibly two but we're unsure of it. yeah theres my little brother who's 8 but he was still tucked up in bed when i heard him giving out about the person running into his room

Try not let it freak the family out and see if when you stay calm it dies down.

Maybe it was your brother messing with your head?

everyones calm about it now... but sometimes when little things happen i get a bit spooked, and no there was no way it was my brother, he was in bed for 2 hours before this happened and he isn't the practical joke kind of child... that and he was very sleepy... so would you say it was a ghost or what...?

Sounds very interesting either way LovelyTom, from reading here I think that 6th has a theory about this type of activity along the lines that it can be caused by some sort of emotional element in a household, i.e. stuff that some may refer to as poltergeist activity, it's a nice way of looking at it alright, as most people can control their emotions. i.e calm down and it will go away, like an asthma attack.
Anyway either way people hearing knocking etc is far from unusual and not worth worrying about (if you are)

Hi LovelyTom, I understand this sort of thing can be spooky but as has been said a calm mind can either figure out what is happening or stop it altogether. I know this as not two long ago, Im talking maybe 4 weeks a lot of stuff started to happen in my own house, like curtains blowing up when the window was closed and no draft, bangs on counter tops and stuff, drawers opening up by themsleves even a bunch of bananas came off the counter, but the point is after some calm looking at the whole situation and my own emotional state it turns out it was my own energy releasing that was causing these things to happen, now I'm calm no more stuff moving. ;) Alot of time spirits get blamed for this sort of thing but our own emotions and engery is a power source to.

ahh haa yes, this explains why I never experience these things, I am in control of my emotions:D

Well now I wouldn't put all paranormal experience including some my own down to emotional state or my just my own engergy.;)

I'm perfectly calm about it now, but i just thought it would be sort of cool to live in a haunted house... well I've tried thinking out logically for the past few days and i really can't explain the knocking on the door, as I'm in thr attic...so it couldn't have been me just hearing someone knock on a different door... and none of my family had been moving about in the past while... i can't think of anything to explain it... like I'm not even spooked at it anymore...

Thanks for your story tom.2 things sprung to my mind...1) was their any history of the house/is it old & 2)did somebody pass away at the house years ago?If so, how, as from your experience thsy are not ready to leave as it could have been a tradgedy death by murder/suicide or disease & they just d'ont want to leave the house in spirit.Any recent occurences after the incident that night?

    Feelio :)

well the house is from the early 1930's and i know for sure that at least 1 person has died here from TB and then other person which may have died here had breast cancer, but we're not completely sure if she died here or in her sisters house. and theres only been one or two small things since, doors slamming on their own with no breeze and my cd player turning itself on

Ok well if its a case that you want to stop the activity then there is stuff you can do. If you want to find out "what" it is then I'd suggest you get someone in who knows their stuff to have a look.

Hmm... well i don't want to get rid of it... it makes the house sort of cool... and if it is anything, it's not causing any harm :o

was there ever a family living there? like a family with kids,it might sound stupid but it sounds like its a re-enactment of something which happened ages ago, considering that ur door was knocked on a few times and then ur brother said someone had ran into his room, maybe years ago that happened,a kid and his family where living there and he maybe always knocked a load of times on his bro/sis's door and ran back to his room, maybe thats whats happening, its a re-enactment...maybe...:D

Can I ask if there are any anniversaries of people known to you around this time of the year who have passed over or birthdays, anything like that? They may just be popping in to say hello and as you seem to be the most open amongst your family members they have choose you to contact. Just keep track of what happens, and dont be frightened,if it is spirit contact then try to find out what they want. When these different things occur do you notice any sensations on your body of any description, omitting the obvious feelings of hairs on back of neck standing up!!!!

well there was a family with kids living in it in the 50's not sure if any died... but i have no idea bout birthdays or anything and well i felt sick at the time so chances are i wouldn't have taken any notice to anything

no one has to have died,it can happen where the house can "remember",it happened in america in a restaurant where voices where coming from the walls and it was found out that the voices where that of a recording of a busy night many years ago...it can happen, doesnt always have to be related to death

that wouldn't make sense though... as my room is in the attic and the attic was only converted last year... no memories up there...
