    Hi,

Wondering has anyone used "Hotels.com" to book accommodation?

Previously the only other site I've booked hotels with was hotelclub.com/.net

My bookings (4 over the last 4 years), worked out well, and the prices were reasonable.

I came across hotels.com from the "tripadvisor" site which I also have found to be the most reliable source of information for hotels and travelling, so I assume hotels.com are reputable. Basically I'm about to use them because they are the only site showing available accommodation in the places I want to go (although it seems a bit more expensive).

    Thanks!:)

This is from the same crowd behind hostelworld.com. Based on my experience with that crowd I'd avoid if possible. They automatically charge a 10% (non refundable) booking fee and if anything goes wrong with the booking, good luck trying to get it sorted. Best bet is to get in touch with hotels directly and make the booking that way.

I've used them a few times without difficulty. All the hotels were accurately described on the site, which isn't always the case.

i've used them many times and they are an irish company which is always good.

They do charge you for using the service and this is non-refundable but you have used their service so why shouldn't it be?

I find it easier than ringing around hotels so i would say use them. Not got a bad hotel out of them combined with tripadvisor yet!

    Thanks everyone. They sound ok.

After booking a hotel online, I always imagine arriving at my destination to meet the US or Continental equivalent of Basil Faulty who knows nothing about my booking.

I've used them a few times. Got a few good deals but ALWAYS check the rate on the actual hotel's website too. Sometimes can be cheaper than hotels.com!

They're not Irish. They may have an office in Dublin but they're originally from the US

as someone else pointed out ALWAYS check the price booking directly, be it a hotel or flight or whatever. ebookers, for example add on 20 quid to the price of a flight. Its a useful website for price comparisons, it does the work for you.

my mistake it's hostels.com that is Irish owned.
