The details of the finest Summer Camp in all the land are as follows:

Venue: Point Blank Gym, Racecourse Business Park, Galway

Friday 7:30pm - meet and greet, open mat with some Submission Wrestling tips from John Kavnagh
Friday Night - get to know the other Camp members over some food and drinks in Galway City

Saturday 11am - 1pm - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, an introduction to the Beauty that is the Gi by Ireland's first BJJ Black Belt John Kavanagh
Saturday 2:00pm - 4:30pm - Clinch for MMA and Strike to Submit, an MMA workshop with the manager of the UFR Fight Team, Ireland's Premier MMA fighters, Davy Paterson
    Saturday 4:30 - 5:30pm Q&A and free rolling.
Saturday Night - Hit the Town hard!

Sunday 10am-12pm - Striking Strikes back - a stand up clinic, instructor is TBC.
Sunday 12:30pm-2pm - MMA League Knockout competition, an MMA League level competition for any attendees of the Camp that are interested.
Sunday 2pm-3pm - Intermediate Grappling Knockout competition, a 2 weight grappling competition for those attendees too experienced for the Knockout competition.
Sunday 3pm - Camp wrap-up and presentation of prizes

The weekend costs just 100 euro. 30 people is the course limit so the sooner you get your name down the better!

The camp will cater to all levels of ability and experience, so even if you have never trained MMA in your life you will learn buckets from this camp!

This is an opportunity to train with people you would never normally meet in a non-competitive environment, don't miss it!

should be a great weekend, defo be the best training camp held this summer...in ireland anyway muwhahaha....;)

looking foward to training with davy patterson - have had the pleasure of fighting on the same card as him....many moons ago! he's put together a fantastic team of fighters and i'm looking forward to stealing as many ideas from him as i can!!

    jk

...as for my 'Gi' section on sat morning. this will be a 'super simple' introduction aimed at beginners or those who've just trained 'No-Gi'....with the idea of getting across some of the fundementals...and trying to convert a few to the 'beauty that is the gi' :D

will be fun, somehow i dont think i could give jk anything he dos'nt already know!
Even back 'many moons ago' when we fought on the same card jk was a very slick operator and made short work of his french opponent,i think this was actually the very first cage event in the UK.
My stint on the matt will be covering some simple technique's in the clinch, and maybe a few counters to the thai clinch and double underhooks, and again keeping it simple, useing strikes to set up finishes
just a few things we use when working for pro mma matches

Ah I really want to go to this, but not sure if I'd be able to endure the whole thing being ill. I could try! What date is it on?

I will put both of you guys down for it.
In other clubs I have the instructor taking a 30 euro deposit to secure the place, so if you want to pm or mail me I will give you an address to send the deposit to, as I don't have any contacts in your club to hold the deposit for me!

Assisting Davey Paterson with his segment will be newly signed UFC fighter Stevie Lynch, a great chance for people to train with one of the men putting Irish MMA on the World Stage!

And when you pick me up. you get lost on a straight road to the hostel..... wich is 10 mins from airport..But you manage to drive around for an hour before finding it.
NExt to that you seem to pick every non english speaking person to ask for directions.

Also, where running around NAKED in the hotel room.. puking all over the place with euro coins stuck to your ass.. And when we where out for breakfast you had a **** on the hotel sheets.. :S

If you re-read the post at the top, you get John giving some tips on the Friday night and teaching a Gi intro on the Saturday morning, so loads of JK jitz to be had!

I do think i should get a freebee.. Since i will have to put up with john o brian again..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Dude, they should pay me to put up with you. Collect you at an airport, walking around rooms naked with coins stuck to your arse, vomiting all over the place at 6 in the morning waking everyone up.

If anything, I deserve the freebee!

As it stands now I have more than thirty names down for the camp, so the first 30 deposits given up will secure their place, so don't go waiting around, get off the fence and book your spot!

Really looking forward to this, should be a good weekend. :)

With just 10 days to go to the kick off, and due to popular demand (read as "complaints"!) the start time for Sunday has been pushed back to 11am to allow for the scaldiness to abate somewhat. The Afternoon advanced grappling tourney is now perfectly timed to warm people up for Fila!

this just in - Ring of Truth tickets will be available at the Summer Camp!

Excellent weekend, nice work Mr. Leonard! :)

That said, I'm a bit upset about all the food you provided for us on Saturday night, I did my quest to reach 65.8 no good at all! :(

A full report on the weekend is being compiled as we speak, for now though you can head on over to Bebo and check out the pictures from the camp!

    Mark,

Thanks for a great weekend. Your hostmanship was outstanding and you're a credit to the sport.
