ruling.... and burn cards

    Hi

Just a quick story here, low stakes.

The purpose of the burn cards in Hold'em is to cover the next card to be played in case it's marked, is this correct?

The reason I ask is that in a self deal tourney in Dublin a player would always burn too early... i.e he'd deal the flop, then instantly burn a card, then incredibily he'd place the next card on the board face down... this is plainly wrong isn't it?

And secondly.... another player started to copy him... then he burnt two cards by mistake and dealt the wrong card face up as the turn card... i.e he dealt the flop, then burned a card... then a bit of betting etc etc... then he burnt ANOTHER card and dealt the turn... face up...
What card should stand as the turn card??? The one that was dealt incorrectly... or the one that was identifible as the wrongly burnt second burn card?

    Cheers
    Joe

if it can be identified as the correct card before any action takes place. then the correct card should be used, So if the minute he flips it somebody says thats the wrong card, the correct turn (second burnt) card is turned over, and the wrong yurn is treated as an exposed card, shown to the table, and flipped back over, this becomes the burn card on the river.

The burn cards aren't only used to coverup the next card in case of marking. Although that is one reason, its also to prevent cards being arranged in the deck, or harder to predict the next card

i assume this was probably in the jackpot thurday game. burning the first card before action preflop is just laziness on the dealer's part. of the people who deal that tourney about 80% of them are quality dealers and the dealers you will see at the irish open, ept etc etc etc... but it recently (a few months back) got out that the dealers get free entry so all of a sudden everyone started to voulnteer to deal and the standard of dealing dropped.
