    How are things?

Heading over to Peru in a few weeks, then touring around south america. Trailfinders told me that you need proof that you will leave Peru within 60 days of arriving, otherwise you wont be allowed on the flight from Dublin...

Has anyone experienced the same thing? Whats the best way around it? Am i gona need to book a flight out of there, even if i dont want it?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

I was told the exact same thing by trailfinders today when i wanted to book my flight into Lima and out of Rio.

They said i would need proof of leaving Peru.

don't know how a flight out of Rio on the same airline is not proof of onward trave.

By the way - i know a couple of people who travelled over land from Peru and had no trouble.

I'm going to ask around in USIT and E Bookers to see if thay say the same thing.

I also rang Iberia airlines today and they quoted me a price for the above flight and said i didn't need a flight out of peru.

I think i'm just going to chance it.

Have you a flight home from South America?

Hello! Looks like I'll be there same time as you. Where you headed?

I'm flying in Brazil, bit worried about that being a one way ticket. Then onto Peru on another one way ticket. My plan is to buy a bus ticket online for a tenner or so. Print that out and show it to the lads.

I have a flight from Chile-Sydney. Don't know if that'll work as proof that I'm leaving.

They told me that even if you book a bus ticket thats proof enough and a bus ticket isnt too expensive. That or find an airline that has fully refundable tickets and just cancel in time

Any idea of how to book a bus ticket out of Peru? Been trying online and cant seem to sort one... Thanks for the suggestions - much appreciated!

The alternative is a one way flight to La Paz for about €230... Not what you want when skimping around South america!

Never got this when I was there!

Citizens from most countries in the Americas and Western Europe do not require visas to enter Peru. Bolivians, Ecuadorians, Brazilians, and Chileans may enter determined regions of the country just by presenting their national identification documents. The maximum authorized length of stay is 90 days.

Contact the embassy to get the correct story I would guess.

Phoned up the Peruvian embassy in London there. The nice lady told me that proof of any return journey from South America will suffice to pass this requirement (i.e. entering Peru and flying out of Brazil). Trailfinders must be just covering themselves...

I hope this is of use to other people doing the same thing. Thanks for the posts...

I don't remember having to provide any documents about onward travel. But maybe I did.

You can travel out of Peru by bus easily and cheaply, I went from Cuzco to Copa Cabana in Bolivia for something in the region of 10 dollars on a nice bus too.

Hope you're right! I'll be arriving there on the 13th with an onward ticket from Chile as my only proof of a plan to ever leave Peru. Hope they let me in!

I've done a lot of research on this issue.

It seems like Iberia airlines are the only airline that require an onward flight from Peru to enter the country.

I have been told by the sales office in Iberia that any ticket out of South America will suffice.

However trailfinders are adamant that you need an onward flight and they've also told me that they've had people being stopped in Madrid and not allowed board their flight to Peru unless they purchase an onward flight from Peru.

It seems to be in Madrid that the issue is - leaving Dublin is fine.

I also rang the Peruvian embassy in the UK and they confirmed that it is only a requirement to have a flight out of South America within 90 days. Any country will do.

    My suggestions:

KLM airline are just as cheap as Iberia, if you want to try them.

Chance it with your return from somewhere else in South America and if needs be find an internet somewhere in Madrid airport and purchase a flight from Lan.com - they offer a full refund on the price of the ticket within 24 hours of purchase.

If you don't want to take the chance - fly into a different country - but it's a shame to have to change plans like that just because of one stupid airline.

Dory you might let the post know how you get on on the 13th.

    Happy travels

Yup, will do. I'm flying Dublin-Heathrow-Sao Paulo, then Sao Paulo to Lima, Peru. So that might make things a bit different. Hopefully won't have to buy an on ward flight. I'll have an on ward bus ticket anyway just in case.
