RAM before bed

Hey lads and lassies i just need your opinion on something small. Up til now my diet has been goin great, and usually before bed i would knock back a pint of that supermilk stuff to keep me sorted til morning. But due to getting a job, im gonna hav to switch things around a bit, and training will be last thing at night now, instead of first thing in the morning. So i was wondering if it would be alright to have RAM instead of milk on training days?? Are there slow releasing proteins in that that will get me thru the night? Im sure there are enough calories in the three scoops???....

If it helps here's how my diet is gonna look:
7:00 - Oatmeal, natural yogurt, honey and banana
10:00 - Handful of nuts and raisins
13:00 - Wholewheat pasta/brown rice with chicken, veg and sesame/olive oil, orange and kiwi
16:00 - Natural PB on mccambridges bread and an apple
19:00 - Dinner (usually some form of potato, veg and lean meat)
    (20:30 - Training)
21:30 - RAM or milk (depending on whether i was training)

Also any other tips welcome, thanks a mil guys.

well what time are you actually going to be going to bed at. I wouldn't make RAM my last meal of the night even if I was training last thing at night. However if you don't go to bed till around 11 then I would go for RAM at 9.30 and try and get another meal at around 10.30

How about you only have 2 scoops of RAM after training AND a pint of milk before bed??

    I suppose that makes sense:D

Are there any other good sources of protein t have before bed though, cos im starting to have a bad reaction to drinking so much milk. Ive never had so many spots before in my life like.

    I know your pain.

Cottage cheese is supposed to be good but I think it tastes rancid.

I usually just have a boiled chicken breast and some wall nuts before bed.

I'll probably be told it's not optimal, but screw it, it's worked damn well for me thus far.

Yeah it's pretty common afaik. I know some will say there's nothing definate that implies causation, but in my exp there's definately some correlation.

I stepped off the scales at 89.6kg today. I started the week at 92. I've been running a bit of a kcal deficit since then and I've taken my carbs down about 100g (to 170ish now.) so the bulk of the loss is most likely water/glycogen.

Not worth a toss for muscle-building purposes.Soya contains only vegatable protein and it wont build ya up.What about a nice can of tuna?

not too up on the whole nutrional value of soya milk but if you are going to drink it its a bit rotten by itself.
Rather make a soya milk smoothie and say blend a bananna up with it way way nicer (slightly odd colour though but yumm none the less)

ok the problem is that you are trying to fit probably the two most important food windows, i.e. post workout and before bed, into one meal however if anything these 2 windows are the complete opposite to each other.

Post workout you are looking to get the nutrients into your body as quickly as possible so RAM is designed to get everything into you as quickly as it isn't designed as a supplement that is going to feed your body over a long period.

Before bed is also another important nutritional window as this is the point when you are going to be feeding your body to help build muscle while you rest during the night, so ideally you are going to be looking for something slow digesting as this will help give you body a constant stream of energy during the night to help recovery.

So if possible try and split your post workout meal from being your last meal of the day as it may just help you to see better gains from your workout

Guys, stop making it more complicated than it is.

2 scoops of RAM post workout (should be before you leave the gym).

Get everything ready that you need to for the next day when you get home, wash etc then eat a truck load of food before you get into bed.

    It's not that hard really.

people are always looking for "optimal" instead of what's proven to work but isn't 100% absolutely correct, technically.

I'll let you in on a little secret, it doesn't matter!!! Just get some food into you. If you wake up hungry then eat more the next time.
