    Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone knew a possible solution to one or two of the issues I have run into.

Does Safari have tabs and if so how do I activate them? I will be using a portable version of FireFox but for the time being Safar is very annoying (only because it has no tabs)

When I drag files to a folder it creates a shortcut (or Alias I think it is under OS-X) rather than moving the files. How can I change this so that it moves the files rather than making shortcuts. I also noticed there is no ability to cut the files and paste them.

Is it possible to add finder to the dock or map it to a keyboard shortcut?

I have hooked up an external drive and it is showing each of the individual partitions (FAT-32) as a seperate external drive. Not so bad but personally its messy for me. Is there any way to consolidate all of these icons under one so they are all grouped under an external drive?

I noticed if I hook up my external HDD to the Mac that certain folders appear on my desktop - why is this and how can I stop it?

Ive noticed that when I download widgets or apps from apple for some reason the .dmg files are automatically mounted on the desktop. Is it possible to turn off this behaviour?

    Dave

Safari doesn't support tabbed browsing. Frankly I don't like using it at all, much prefer Firefox for browsing

AFAIR Finder was already on my doc when I got my Mac. Clicking on the Mac face brings it up for me

Hold down the apple key and comma while in safari to bring to the preferences panel. You can enable tabbed browsing there.

I prefer using Firefox too... but I've been meaning to go back to using Safari as it does run a lot smoother and has a lot of nice touches that Firefox does have.

As above, Tabs are enabled and made visible by clicking Safari on the finder bar then Preferences and then on the Tabs option. You can set whether the tabs bar is always visible or only when there is more than one tab open. This feature only arrived in later versions of Safari which is probably why Buffybot doesn't have the feature ?

Finder handles these action differently depending on where the destination folder is. If you drag a file from a folder on -say - HD1 to another folder on HD1 then Finder MOVES the file to the new location. If you drag a file from HD1 to HD2 then Finder COPIES the file to the new destination. I prefer to use a 2 button (or 3) mouse, right click > Copy xxxxx and then PASTE to the new destination which answers your next question. If you have only 1 button then ,ctrl. + click will bring up the same menu.

On my Dock it's the left most Icon - the smiley Face ?

This is normal and also occurs in Windows too. I've never seen a way to do what your asking and doubt if anything like this exists because these are in effect 2 different hard drives as far as the OS is concerned.

What are the folders called ? are they folders that are already on the external drive ? Hi-lite one of the folders and press Apple + i to get the Info pane for the folder, it may tell you what or where the folder comes from.

If using Safari go to Preferences > General and disable the "Open "Safe" files after downloading". This is prudent as it stops malicious apps from executing without your knowledge or permission. You can also change where the files are downloaded to here as well, I created a "Download" Folder in my Documents folder and every thing goes there.

    Hope this helped !

sounds stupid, but i will ask

in the apple site i saw a lego game ( i love lego, always did) but you have to have a Graphics card: NVidia GeForce 5200/ATI Radeon 7500 or better (not integrated)---mine is ATI Radeon X1600:----now i know this is not good enough, but if i did download it would the graphics be that bad or would it even work.

Your Mac is most likely a current one if it has an X1600 in it.

The Radeon 7500 (32MB) was one of the first Radeon Graphics cards used in Macs dating back to the PowerMac AGP over 7 years ago.

Your Mac sounds like it would be well capable of running this game IMO.

I think you should be fine. It ran just fine on my PC with a ATI x700
