I just sold a house and was told firstly that the cost of the auctioneer was .8% and at the most 200 fees for advertising
They are after taking the .8% +VAT (fair enough)
and also 750 in advertising fees
What if anything can I do

I dont think theirs much you can do if you signed the contract.

There was no actual contract with the estate agent they just sent a letter saying they were the sole agents and that the rate was .8 +VAT and some advertising fees but no quote. This was not a signed contract

Ask them for a breakdown of the advertising costs and where the advertising was placed. - If they can't produce it, they can't charge you.
