actually.. the knowledge that I'd be beaten into an unrecognisable messy puddle of ex-human pulp serves as good resistence against buying any further camera kit.

Just ask yourself - do you REALLY need it .. or do you just really really want it?? :D

I know I want one, but I don't need it, and can't afford it (well, I guess I could and my credit card would enjoy it).

Damn it looks good. Mind you, my photos would probably still be crap. LOL.

I'm taking the step of cancelling all but one of my credit cards before the camera is released... and the one I don't cancel I'm putting in a locked box and swallowing the key

I recently cancelled a credit card, but had another with the same company. They simply added the two limits together. Dangerous. Now I could almost put a deposit of a house on my credit card.

But, I'm going to behave, and NOT buy one of these cameras ......... yet.

$4500. Worth a trip to B&H considering the exchange rate!! It's out now but supplies are scarce. Great value IMHO.

Well if its trilo or the camera ... that is a tough choice ... but I'm sure you'll find somebody to take her off your hands ... :D

besides ... if you offer her your current body ... maybe then a deal can be struck ...

I'll go with ya ... in fact lets do a boards outing to pick up 1d Mk III's in Hong Kong ... go for a night out with Albert ... Flight plus accomodation is surprisingly cheap ...

I have an uneasy feeling that I will regret having read these words of Valentia. A little George Hamilton-like voice, my better judgment, is saying "danger here!". Already however the genesis of a rationalisation for purchasing this camera is forming in the deep recesses of my subconscious. Over the next 12 months or so it will embed itself and grow larger and larger. What was once an object of fantasy, a camera that I don't need and can't afford, will become something that I will feel to be within the realm of availability after all. Or so I will have convinced myself.

    This is bad craziness.

Is there a branch of Gearheads Anonymous that I can phone before it's too late?

I'd hold off awhile. There is some serious threads on dpreview about cameras being sent back with "error99" problems.

I wouldn't pay too much heed to the threads on dpreview Valentia. Notoriously unreliable.

Supplies are still very scarce. Even companies like B&H and Adorama are not committing themselves to delivery times. It will be quite a while yet before our
friend Albert in Kea will have any. As Valentia pointed out, the B&H/Adorama price of $4,500 dollars (€3,351) is good value (although I presume there is NY tax of around 12% on top of that) and would be worth a trip to New York.

I had a hands-on with a Mk III last night; it's an absolute beast of a camera for sure.
