Can anyone recommend a good website for buying prescription sunglasses? Buying them in Specsavers or the local opticians will cost a fortune.

    Thanks!

right..i work in an opticians and if i were you i wouldnt buy online.

not all sunglasses can have a prescription put into them and the stronger your prescription is the less likliehood that you'll be able to get them made up.

plus just because you like a pair of sunnies online or in a catalogue doesn't mean that look good when you wear them, its better to try them on in the shop then if you wish take note of the model no. and then buy online but i wouldnt advise it

Ah yes but a lot of the websites have image technology that lets you upload a photo and "try them on".

I bought rimless glasses online and they are perfect and cost me less than half of the optician price!!

I'll risk it again with the prescription sunglasses.

    I have used www.giarre.com

They have loads of brands - so you can trot into sunglasses hut/wherever
and try them on. And then buy them online (cheaper too).
It will say which ones are suitable for prescription lenses.

I wouldn't buy without trying on - sizes can be crucial!

On Giarre - if your prescription is under a certain level, the lenses are free.
I think all you need to pay for is the tinting after that.

Could you let us know the URL's for some of these websites? I hate going into stores and trying on 20 pairs with shop assistants staring at ya!

    Glassesdirect.co.uk

Thats the one I used for the rimless glasses and no complaints! Just click the 'try online' link after you've picked the glasses out and follow the instructions!

Has anyone ever bought prescription glasses online? How do you get them? Wouldn't you have to have an eye test done with them or would you get the details of your opticians?

I've just discovered retrospecs.co.uk recently and I'm very tempted to order some prescription sunglasses from there, want to try on some of the styles in town before I order through there though.

Have ordered cheapo prescription glasses online before and they were fine! www.getspecs.co.uk, although that was before I cared how they looked ;)

    http://SelectSpecs.com

I ordered a pair from the above site about 5wks ago but they havent arrived. They cost €60 so am praying the replacement pair arrives. Unfortunately by the time I get them the sun will be gone and my prescription will probably be expired!!

I generally buy my glasses from zennioptical.com. Have recommended the site to loads of people but would recommend if you are buying glasses online to get a ruler and measure the width of glasses that fit you well. Have purchased ones that are "too tight" in the past.

Also have found in the past that specsavers dont give you your pupilliary distance on your prescription however vision express do - have needed this measurement to order online.

I've had perscription sunglasses before and tbh i found it a pain to be carrying around 2 pairs (my normal glass).. I have a pet hate of wearing sunglasses inside which i would have to do if i didn't bring my regular glasses.

In future, i will just invest in some contacts, and buy normal sunglasses. That way i don't have to carry around my regular glasses as well.
