Rochefort Query

I've been searching the net trying to find info on rochefort 12 or even if it did/still exists. Now the Rochefort range as far as i knew only included 6, 8, 10 but a customer of ours is sure there is a Rochefort 12. Our Supplier says there isn't and the Rochefort Website only shows 6, 8 and 10. But with a little searching on the net i have found sites and forums in which they refer or compare other abbey style beers to a Rochefort 12. I can't find any reviews of Rochefort 12 itself though!

So can anyone here help?? Has anyone heard of/tasted/seen a Rochefort 12?

They may mean Westvleteren 12, but its only available from the monastery and not for commercial distribution. Unfortunately they may have to go to Belgium to get it.

Here is some info about them
The monks have repeatedly stated that they only brew enough beer to run the monastery, and will make no more than they need to sell, regardless of demand. During World War II, the brewery stopped supplying wholesalers and since then they only sell to individual buyers in person at the brewery or the inn opposite. These methods all go against modern business methods, however as stated by the Father Abbott on the opening of the new brewery, "We are no brewers. We are monks. We brew beer to be able to afford being monks.".

Buyers of the beer receive a receipt with Niet verder verkopen ("Do not resell") printed on it. The abbey is very much against resale of their beer, and it is their wish that the beer is only commercially available at the two official sale points. To this end, any Westvleteren beer which is sold anywhere else in the world is grey market beer, as no wholesalers or pubs are supplied with the beer, and the abbey is actively working to eliminate the illicit sales.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers for the help!

I had looked into Westvleteren 12 but the abv is 10.2% and apparently this Rochefort 12 has an Abv of 14.6%, according to the customer. Going to have to quiz him more when he comes back in...

I have never heard of a 12. http://www.trappistes-rochefort.com/bieres_accueil.htm only mentions the three we know.

Rochefort 12 has an Abv of 11% not 14%, that would some rocket fuel! :D

Do you know if is there any wholesalers bring in Achel into Ireland?

    Oblivious, that's the Rochefort 10, not the 12: http://www.trappistes-rochefort.com/bieres_10.htm.

Haven't found a supplier bringing them into Ireland but may be able to source both Westvleteren and Achel directly... Intrested? Watch this space :)

Unfortunatly it may end up pricey so i'll have to research it a bit more

    Right heres the low down...

Rochefort 12 does exsist. It is a limited edition brew that is very rare and sparatic in its appearance. Apparently you'd nearly have to be a monk to know when the next brew was coming.
Achel has been ordered and we should have it next week. Also we should be getting St. Bernardus 12 in too, which is the neareast thing you'll get to Westvleteren 12, as I've been told. It was brewed with the help of the Master Brewer at Westvleteren who had the knowledge of all the secret, original in recipes.

St. Bernardus 12 is a great beer and I looking forward to get some Achel, I believe that Achel and Westvleteren get there yeast from Westmalle!
