Lefty or Righty

When you're shooting, which eye do you use? Right, left, both open, both closed(??), swap between any of the above?

How do left-handed people find using camera's that are orientated towards right hand use?

I use my right eye. But find that prolonged use means it can sometimes take a while for normal focusing to fall back into place in my eye. Does anybody keep both eyes open? I believe both open is the supposed way when shooting video.
I'm not sure if you can have a 'predominant' eye, however I have a very slight prescription in my right eye, although its so slight that its nowhere near needing any kind of corrective lens

Oh, I'm right handed. So camera's suit my 'uni-dextrousness'

Right handed and use my right eye.

When shooting street shots sports and wildlife, mainly use both eyes as it helps a lot to see outside of the viewfinder whats about to appear in the viewfinder.

    Strongly right-handed, strongly left-eyed. I guess I'm wonky.

So does keeping both eyes open help with not being able to focus after taking loads of shots? I can get headaches sometimes.

Left-eyed means I wouldn't be able to see anything out my right eye anyway.

I'm lefthanded and it's honestly never really bothered me except when I'm shooting while lying down.

    Right handed, right eye'd.

Depending on what I'm shooting I'll have one eye open, or both open.

Right handed left eyed. No great problem with a camera but painful with a rifle.

Right handed (mostly) right eyed ('cose my right eye is a little better - in medical way).

Right-handed, use my right eye, but keep both eyes open, when shooting football. You've got to follow the action and anticipate what will come into view.
If you find yourself getting eye strain, try getting an extended view finder. Try not to "look", too hard.

I have no idea. I'm right handed...but when I'm taking photos I'm just taking taking photos...

I'm right handed and left-eyed - and keep pressing the button for one shot/continuous/timer mode with my nose :( I'm thinking about one of those eyepiece extender thingies actually.

I also get really sick of squinting with one eye shut, trying to see if the subject is within the tiny plane of focus I get at f1.8 in macro land, and my frickin mascara ends up streaming down my cheek. The hardship....

Right handed and very much left eyed, even to the point of sighting down rifles with a closed right eye, a habit that was very hard to break.

With cameras it just causes a bit of nose grease on the screen though :)

right handed, right eye - had to laugh at an old boss once who claimed that all pros use their left eye :) (don't bother googling, it's b.s.)

i'm right handed not sure which is the dominant eye, but usually have both eyes open (lets in more light and you can see outside the frame) I know sports marksmen always have both eyes open and some may have a shade over the disengaged eye to prevent distraction or focussing issues with the dominant eye.

A good question, I'm left handed and look in the viewfinder with the left eye. I often keep the right eye open also, as mentioned here already it's good because it gives U an idea about what's going on outside the frame.

Right handed and right eyed. But depending what I'm doing can have both eyes open to keep an eye on what is around me.

I think that's pretty standard for most people. I know, depending on what I'm doing, I'll have two eyes open for: walking, running (when I'm off me crutch), reading, shouting, using binoculars.

Whereas one eye use is reserved for: winking, driving, giving the evil eye, doing pirate impressions (when I'm on me crutch), taking photos.

No eyes open is for: sleeping, driving, sleeping.

Right-handed and photograph left-eyed because I have better vision that side. I'm probably right-eyed though.
