That's not a good sign, is it? As in for my application. I sent it in on the week it was first advertised, should I send an e-mail reiterating my interest?

Maybe they havent gotten to your application or overall are disappointed with the overa ll quality / numbers. It's not to say you suck, but maybe most of the other people suck.

It's just possible that they haven't got much interest.

Even if you're perfect for the job, most companies wouldn't be happy with just one or two people to interview for a position.

It usually means they did not get a great response for the position and want more applicants or the applicants they have interviewed did not meet their requirements. Sucks but I'm sure we have all had interviews thinking we were right for the job only to get a hard luck call or letter. Doesn't mean you won't get it though

Thanks for the feedback. Haven't heard from them at all since I sent the application - should I email them?

Usually means that the pot of candidates they have are not suitable or just crap. I would bother contacting them again. If they havent contacted you by now, it would'nt exactly be promising.

I have had a few interviews over the years where they never bothered to get back to me so I never bothered contacting them, the way I see it is if they are not curtious enough to get back to you they're not worth working for!

I disagree. OP: you want the job, show that you're still interested. Worst thing that can happen, they'll stop you hanging on for "that" phonecall/letter.
