Ya i've been looking at this for a while. Could you put up some of the diverse range of artists actually playing at this. I was at one a few years ago and it was absolute ****e.

The lack of information makes me wary...

We put that up because the list is subject to change as we are taking on more artists now having discovered more talent that we feel needs to be celebrated and shared! And what better way to do that than through this beautiful music. We head-hunted and picked the artists from a few hundred that wanted to play, just because we felt their sound was unique, simple as that. James O Toole is a genuinely talented vocalist/musician, who works hard, and sounds great, and has true passion, as does Rob Walsh, Sarah Gleeson, Vijay Kishore and the many other artists involved in celebrating Jeff Buckley's memory.

Sounds like it could be a good night

I don't want to sound harsh but is it going to be all relatively unknown artists playing? Oh and are they all from ireland?

To be honest, if we WANTED to get popular Irish artists, I'd walk out myself..

Will tickets be available at the door? Might head in to it if I can convince some other Jeff listeners

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

They don't have to be popular only good. I go to alot of gigs and see a lot of bands. I tend to get worried when i have heard nothing about any of the artists involved. And this sentence is a load of cock it says nothing "works hard, and sounds great, and has true passion, as does yada yada yada" I've been to different tribute gigs, JB, Elliott Smith, Nick Drake. All these had good and bad points. The worst possibly Nick Drake as there were some fanboy no talents playing at it.

Tickets will be available at the door, cheers for your support Mushy! :)

    Hi Faceman,
The gig will include performances of Jeff's music, by vocalists, guitarists, bands, etc..(see www.myspace.com/jeffbuckleytributenightireland for details), there will also be merchandise giveaways, and a special viewing of a newly produced Sony video (Jeff Video Single), and a special message from a very special guest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,093 ✭✭✭TelePaul

And a special message from a very special guest.

To save anyone the effort of going to the myspace site: Here's what it says:
Now maybe i'm missing something but this actually tells you nothing about the night apart from. Some people will be playing Jeff Buckley songs.

The money is going to a very good cause however.

Jeff Buckley's music will be brought to life once again in the most memorable way at a new venue, big enough to accommodate all the people that have shown so much interest in this event.

It will take place in The Village, on Friday, June 1.

A very special guest will be joining us there to remember the beauty and inspiration that was every song he wrote, or loved and borrowed to perform in his own way.

Some very talented and inspired people will be performing his songs, as he did with classics by legends such as Ninah Simone, Van Morrison, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, to name but a few, in their own unique and magnificent way.

Jeff Buckley Tribute Night Ireland is taking place in The Village, Wexford St., Dublin on June 1, with artists, video messages, merchandise giveaways from JeffBuckley.com.
If you want to attend, you'll be seen worldwide online through JeffBuckley.com!
Tickets are 15 megabucks from Box Office 1890 200 078,
OR Sound Cellar (off Grafton Street),
Freebird (Secret Book and Record Store, 15a Wicklow St.),
    Abbey Discs,
    Comet in Temple Bar,
OR at the door on the night!
So they are haunting you at every turn!
And profits go towards supporting The Niall Mellon Township Trust, where 1250 Irish men and women will this year go to South Africa, to BUILD houses, but basically a neighbourhood, for people who've never known a home outside a corrugated iron shack!
We are helping to send one of ours over to put his electrical handywork to good use!
Show your support for music and a good cause, and have a great night at the same time! :)

Just got this in a private message from the promotor of this wonderful gig:

You Trinners wooly jumper breast fed til you were 9 type C*NT
**** right off, check myspace for details if you want them, or go to a page where you're actually not just in the way.

First of all i didn't go to Trinity, i have no problem with people who did, i'm not sure what it has to do with anythin - please explain.
Second there are no details on the myspace page, my reason for asking you about the artists playing- still unanswered...
Third i was breast fed but only for about 9-10months, again what has this to do with anythin?
Fourth: If you can't deal with a simple query you certainly can't organise a gig.

lordgoat what exactly is your problem have you some kind of axe to grind with the promoters?

Or do you just feel lonely & are looking for some attention.

I got a call about this private message that has been posted up, and I thought I'd log on and clear it up. There are around 20 people that have access to our login account details, I'll look into it and try to find out if it actually was one of the guys or girls that sent it, I seriously doubt it though, our login details are pretty open, it could have been anyone. Apologies to everyone, it's certainly not my style to argue someones opinion, difficult as the person is! I had a bad feeling alright about letting any of us start any promotion on this site. Also, I'm not for discriminating against anyone who went to 'Trinners,' I went there myself! Playing the night are James O Toole, Vijay Kishore, Gabby Young, Stephen Ellis (Revere), Dave McGuinness (Lir), Rob Walsh, Trea.... a few more, the reason they weren't disclosed til this week is because we were confirming performers, don't like giving any wrong information. Phew, sorted, I won't be coming here again soon! (Except to talk about how great Patton is!:))

My problem is that when you ask a genuine question and you don;t get an answer repeatedly and then have to put up with abuse from children. Like here for example.

I have no problem at all i've been to many gigs and generally support them, i've been on these boards a long time and get on with most people. However when you keep getting told to refer to a website for answers when there is nothing on it. it get's quite annoying.

Forgive me for not jumping on the bandwagon, i'd rather not go to a gig about JB for it to be absolute ****e and full of people who are blind to their own failings. I was at a Nick Drake one a few years ago and it was awful. I was at a few Elliott Smith ones and moslty they were excellent and they were extremely well but even though the acts, at times, were a little poor. There were always ways to find out who they were, and what they sounded like before you went along. Not an unreasonable request.

Fair enough but you can't paint all the promoters with the same brush is it the same promoter behind this that put on those other gigs?

No, if they were they would have an idea how to properly promote a gig. I have no affiliation with any promotor either. I just think this one has been particularly poorly promoted and the evasive nature of questions concerning acts playing is strange. Even now all you have is a list of names. Doesn't inspire me with confidence.

Can I ask some questions about this show without getting my head chewed off:

How is it an "Official" gig?
Whats wrong with having "Popular Irish Artists" perform?
Is everyone on the Myspace Friends list playing?

To the people who have been sending the PM's to Lord Goat you should be thrown off the site. Lordgoat has raised some legitimate questions which should just be answered. From the nature of the posts it looks like anyone who questions this concert is shot down for not getting into the spirit of the thing and being against new musical experiences. I dont think Jeff would be too happy with the type of response.

It's not 'Official' to be awkward or snobby! I went to a Hicks tribute in town a few years back and thought, wouldn't it be cool to be a part of a JB tribute in 2007, so I got a few people together (really nice people, we're not here to fight! Ask me questions, whatever!), and jb.com asked us to do the official one..so why not!?

Nothing wrong with popular artists playing gigs, just wanted to have talented people who are nice and will play it!

Now I have a question..why is it a crime to love Jeff Buckley and just try to put on a nice night for him??? If it bothers you so much, go do one yourself, I'd go!

    Me too! :)

It is a Tribute night. A number of artists are playing. Yes, it is true, some of them might indeed be ****e, this is entirely possible! But it is equally possible that others may be wonderful! You might say "Wow! Who was that? Never heard them before? They were really good!"

Also, once you have list of people playing you can check out their myspace music profiles and hear how they sound, that should give you a good idea...
for example; I have just discovered Rebecca Howles on myspace and believe she is doing a Tim Buckley song on the night, she is well worth hearing!

And even more Also, quite simply, if you do not enjoy Jeff's music then just don't go....if you do then why not pay out some money for a good cause and keep an open mind?

No chance of any of the acts being sh***, not at all. One of the best gigs I've been to in a long time. Thanks Grace and Co! Here's alittle pic of the night.
