Test driving bikes in Ireland

I recall the last time I went looking at bikes in Ireland I was unable to take any for test drive. I used to go around looking at the private sector in order to get a feel for a bike before I bought.

Is this still the case? If not, what shops can you do this (I'm in Cork by the way). I mean, if you're thinking of buying a 15k bike, then its a bit silly to do so without a test run right?

I think that it varies from place to place. My local dealer closed a while back but he would have let you test out the bikes. I think Bikeworld advertise the fact that they allow test-rides but you might have problems getting them elsewhere.

Kearys BMW by the kinsale roundabout are the only shop in Cork that do test drives I think. I was asking about a K1200R and they offered me a go on it but as I havent passed the test yet I couldnt.

Tallaght Superbikes and Autos allow tests, and have a good range.

I wouldnt buy a bike in a shop that didnt allow you to test ride it.
That'd just be silly. How else do you find out its comfortable/powerful/handles the way you want? You buy clothes for looks/comfort, you buy bikes for feel/performance. You cant judge that by sitting on it in a showroom.

You may have to prove you're insured to ride it,or get your insurance swapped over, but thats expected. Ducati Dublin loan bikes over the wend to some known customers to try out, which is quite brave of them :)
