Massive pdf size when sent to printer

    I have a 2MB pdf file here and when sent to the printer it becomes 18MB. Is it normal for the size to increase this much as its zapping cpu resources on the print server...

    Yeah, that's normal AFAIK. The printer doesn't understand PDF (which is compressed) so it uses bitmaps or something uncompressed like that.

    Hmmm, we can't print out pdfs at all here now. There about 2MB. The fileserver is is at 100% CPU with them in the queue and its halting services on other printers installed to this server. The other printers print out small messages saying out of memory but theres loads of memory. Its just the CPU thats maxed out.

    PDF file are compressed a lot so then the printers print them as pictures...bitmaps like.

    That is why they take up so much memory or CPU...
