    Hi all,

My wife , one year old son and I are planning a trip to Sydney in late September for 3 weeks.A couple of questions that maybe someone could offer advice or experience on:

    1. Should we stop over?If so whats the best connection and stopover time?

    2. Would you avoid Heathrow. A travel agent told us that it was a nightmare, especially with a young child?

    Thanks

LHR is a nightmare to transit through. Typically you would arrive in Terminal 1 if you fly on Aer Lingus or BMI and then have to connect to Terminal 3 or Terminal 4 to connect onto BA/Qantas/Singapore Airlines/Cathay Pacific etc etc.... diastrous if you have a wee kid.

My best bet for you is to fly Aer Lingus to either Amsterdam or Frankfurt.
Then connect onto Qantas to Sydney - both have a touch down in Singapore where you can get off and stretch the legs before reboarding again, otherwise, you can simply stay on the aircraft as it continues onto SYD.
Qantas flight 5 and Qantas flight 6 - both operate Frankfurt - Sydney - Frankfurt (with a stop in Singapore in both directions). in Frankfurt, simply connect onto Aer Lingus back to DUB.

If you are planning on an actualy layover, then you could try a few days in Singapore on way over and Hong Kong on the way back. I would definitely reccommend these cities.

I found ebookers v.helpful, perhaps you can ring them, or please PM me if you need any further info.
    Regards,
    MTM

If you fly with Singapore Airlines, they will set you up with a nice stopover package (accommodation, vouchers for tourist attractions, airport transfers) in Singapore. It's a pleasant, clean city too!

I too can vouch for a stopover in Singapore, try to get 1 or 2 days there as its a beautiful place and it also breaks the trip up nicely.

I'm off to Sydney next week going from Dublin via Heathrow, Singapore to Sydney with Aer Lingus and Qantas. As it's getting closer I'm starting to dread the journey.

Is there a lot of walking from terminal 1 to terminal 4 and how long should it take? I've still got a limp after breaking my ankle and had hoped to have been more mobile by now.

We have 1h 30min stopover at Singapore (1h 15min on return journey). With such a short stopover at Singapore I'm hoping to get off the plane and stretch my legs. What's singapore airport like? I've heard they have very long queues for the toilets and that you have to go through security or immigration to go to them and again when you go to reboard the plane.

i wouldn't bother with the stopover unless you'll be in Oz for a while and can afford the extra few days. In my experience it only prolongs the jet lag.

Go Malaysian via Manchester and sample Kuala Lumpur.

I would recomend that airline and stop over.

    Is T4 open ? I know i went from T1 to T3 last december, takes a whoping 10 mins....15 mins max.

edit: oops, meant T5, thats not due to open till march 08, so my journey time to T3 is of no real use to you .......... :)
