    Hi guys,

Need your help about my insurance renewal.

I have received my quote from QD and have shopped around a bit. I think i am being offered the best deal with FBD.

My question is, does anyone have any bad words to say about FBD????

Im getting away from QD as i have heard some horror stories about them and now that i have my Full Licence and 26 other insurance companies are quoting me around the same price.

    Any advice would be greatful

Great prices good policies I moved to them this year spent a couple of years with AA decided to go direct - much cheaper and they have a local office too which is dead handy - I got the impression (a bit too late) you could haggle a bit on the price too which I'll be doing when my renewal comes up! They also give free breakdown cover on their comp policies I'd go with them before QD any day I'm none too happy about them taking over my BUPA policy either

I was with FBD for three years and would highly recommend them.

FBD are a reputible company, steer clear from QD. Opt for the cheapest but with the best cover, double check what you are covered for and what you are not and check out the no claims bonus system. Sometimes a company will not tell you everything to get your business so read the small print.

I'm with FBD for a number of years and have had no bad experiences with them. They have nearly always been the cheapest quote for too, if I got a cheaper quote I always went back to them and they matched it.

I also have my home insurance with them and they gave me a discount for having the two policies with them. I also find having a local branch nicer to deal with rather than a call centre at the other side of the country.

I'm with FBD and they are great!
They have a local office and you CAN haggle with the price. ( it did help that my dad has his all his farm stuff insured with them!)
But they have a full protected no claims bonus, meaning you can make any amount of claims under your policy and reatain you NCB.
It costs a few quid as an option but is well worth it IMO as my car was vandalised twice this Yr!

Im abit dissapointed with FBD at present,my renewal arrived last week with a scabby reduction of €50 on it,most quotes from other insurers were a good €400 cheaper so i got back onto them but they said the renewal was the best they could do.

Service wise there very helpfull compared to other companies ive dealt with

Their prices seem to have increased since last year for me anyway. Decided to stay with Quinn Direct as I'm skint and there was at least €400 in the difference for TPFT. I'll probably look at them again next year as I'll probably go comprehensive and Quinn Direct offer measly personal accident cover with their comprehensive policies.

Eireal, what car do you have insured with them? I'm wondering because I got a phone call from FBD last week (my insurance was due for renewal, although I'm not currently insured with them) as they wanted to see if they could give me a better quote than whatever I had. When they realised that I still had the same car as I had last year (that they wouldn't quote me on then, as it's a "high performance car"), she had to make embarrassed noises and say that actually, they still couldn't quote me. I'd have laughed if it wasn't so bloody pathetic.

The "high-performance" car is a 1.6 VTEC Honda, by the way, not exactly EVO or Impreza territory. Plus I'm not exactly in the first flush of youth.

    Contacted them for a quote.

At first, they quoted me a reasonable quote. Then I asked to put my mother down as a named driver. Full licence for 20 odd years, no penalty points, grand. What's her occupation? "Delivery driver". Got a PFO at that point :)

I'm with FBD and have no probs. Make sure you get the Fully Protected extra on your policy. It costs an extra €100 but is worth it. If you make any claims on your policy and it won't affect your no claims bonus.

    Mine only cost €65 :D

But well worth it, when I got my car repaired they did all the arranging.
one short phone call sorted it out
They picked my car up from my house and left a replacement. got the work done and dropped my car back all shiny

Cheers for all the advice lads..........

I have spoken with FBD and they said i will be fully comp with NCB protected, and i can make as many claims in the year and it wont effect my NCB at the end of the year, thats good as it will proctect my 6yrs NCB.........Sounds pretty good alot better than QD where you can only make 2 claims and thats it. The Policy also includes Breakdown recovery and Drving of other cars and also covered in Europe.

Might try and give them a call to see if they can come down an extra few quid before taking the policy.......:p

One thing to note, if you do make a claim they will note it on your no claims bonus if you decide to change company. Depending on the company you move to they may or may not recognise your full no claims bonus. I had a claim and phoned around for a few quotes at renewal and I think AXA and Hibernian were willing to recognise my full NCB.

Yep a delivery driver is viewed the same as a courier, v hard to get car insurance for & if you do it will cost you a packet for the business use

A vtec civic,I had abit of hassle taking out the premium last year in actually getting the correct car put down on the insurance cert but they were far cheaper than everyone else with the quote.

Anyone else renewed with them recently and had a close enough premium?

Hmm, so they're insuring you on a car that has the same or more powerful engine than mine, but is a slightly different shape.

    Stupider and stupider....

That's strange - they quoted me on whatever I asked. Evo, Scooby and Focus ST - which a lot of insurers won't touch.

It took a bit of talking as the ST was not in their list but they got back to me with a really good quote in the end

Projectgtr, it's a CRX actually. I've had no problem insuring it elsewhere, just FBD seem to have particular problems with it.
