I was in the new swimming pool today. i have to say that unlike the gym, the pool is rather good. What do the rest of you think about the pool?

I would like to use the pool instead of buying a full membership now...how much is it a go? 5euro?...

Hmm, it's a big thing full of water. it works. It is kinda impressive though. Cahnging rooms are kinda warm so you end up all sweaty. not nice.

they are working to reduce the temperature in the changing rooms.

I like the pool, would prefer the full depth the whole way along but it's great to have a pool so close.

    Great! The pools open.

Now just need to learn how to swim.... :(

I only learned to swim last year. It's easy to learn to not drown and to move forward at the approximate speed of driftwood. The hard bit is getting fast!

Wow: I thought I was the only one who couldn't swim!

Are you afraid of water? If not, there's really no reason why you shouldn't learn. What would happen if you fell in while walking on the quays or something?

Agreed. The temperature of the water is also an issue. its too bloody warm. its fine if it were a leisure pool, but if one wishes to do some serious lengths it is difficult as your body becomes excessively warm fast. The national aquatic centre has much colder water but after a few lengths your body gets used to it. still, beggars cant be choosers and it is good to have a pool so close at hand.

I used to sail a bit..

I'm not a fan of non salted water.. and although I thrash about, and keep afloat and the like.. the whole point a to point b thing was never my strong point

So now lets all go vote Yes in the referendum today so everybody can afford to use it.

Yes let everyone be forced to pay a €70 tax regardless of whether they're going to use it or not!

I often wonder that too. I can kind of float all right, but, like original_psycho, it's the whole "moving from that side of the pool to the other" thing I can't get my head around.

The feckin steam room or sauna are never open. perhaps when everyone pays their 70 squid this will change.

p.s. i was just thinking, could the pool and gym actually cope if every student in college decided to use these facilities say 2 or three times a week? i don't think it could as it is cramped enough as it is. The luce should definetly be retained for sports purposes.

Out of curiosity, are there discounted prices for the many of us who paid for all this but who left college long before it was completed?

    Exactly.

Why not encourage people to use the facilities by charging them? Heart disease, obesity and all that crap people keep telling us about blah blah etc.l
