Sage problem - Can't get it to run

We use sage micropay for the payroll here and I'm finished setting up a new laptop except for sage. We have a network install and 2006 and 2007 are in their own folders respectively.

I get this error "Could not register micropay as the active program. You need to shutdown all sage applications and retry. You may need to restart your system."

Sometimes this might only be happening on 2006 while 2007 is fine. Other times its vice versa and other times like now both give the same error message.

Anyone know what the problem is? Its running on all existing machines fine. The original setup was done by a guy that has now left.

Are you logged onto the laptop with full admin rights, like administrator ?

If you are then the best things is to contact their support @ 1890 946 771

    or goto http://sage.ie/supportnew/home.htm

    and they'll sort ya out

Get your last End of Year CD and run the Micropay option and during the process it will give you 2 options - Full Install or Client Install. SELECT CLIENT INSTALL - do not select Full.

On the next screen it will ask you for the location of the Micropay. Browse up to the network drive that Micropay is on and double click the Micropay Professional icon. You should see 2006 and 2007 folders there but do not go into them. Simply say OK and the client install will create the 2006 and 2007 shortcuts on the laptop.

You do not need to do the full install on the laptop. But you MUST run the Client Install.

Also check the version at the top left of the Micropay screen afterwards. It should read 5.1 and not 5.0 even if the end of year CD is version 5.0.

5.1 is the 2007 version with the budget changes.

Ok, ive got that sorted now. I rang tech support and the problem was that the client was not installed locally.

I have another problem though. I am now trying to upgrade sage from
    TOOLS > UPGRADE PROGRAM

However there is another user logged in which is stopping me from being able to lock the database. She is called "Accountant1". She is not in today though. Is there a way for me to force logout her as I don't know her details. She must have shut down her machine by "Xing" rather than logging out correctly.

    That's Line 50 not Micropay.

In short - No. You will have to wait for that person to come in before you upgrade.

But remember you will have to upgrade the server and each client. Take FULL backups before you start (again you will have to wait for the person to come back in but backup what's on the server in the meantime).

And remember to ask your support for any updates that were issued after the release. I reckon its version 13 you are moving to and I can't remember if there were any updates after its release but check.

Hang on - just re-read your question. The persons PC is off? Right? So she is not logged into Line 50.

In that case, log into Line 50 using her username and password and follow the on-screen prompts and then log out correctly. This happened to me last Summer.

What makes you think its line 50?

It won't let me log in as her though. It says "unable to log in. this user name is already logged in at another machine"

She is actually in today and it turns out she doesn't even use the program and the machine it shows in "current logins" is out of use!
There must be a way to force this damn user off.

Its sounds like Line 50 or Instant Accounts. Can you tell what it is?

If Line 50 or Instant there is a file that can be renamed which I'll dig up for you in the meantime.
