    Hi,

Wondering has anyone travelled to France during Bastille Day, July 14th?

Does the whole place shutdown? What are the hotels and restaurants like. Looks like I'll possibly be in Carcassonne in the South on that date. Wondering is a mistake to be on holidays in France at that time.

    Thanks.:)

I can't speak for Carcassonne, but I have been in both Paris and Nice on Bastille day and had a great time.

It can be difficult to get a room in Paris at a decent price at that time (or for most of summer for that matter) but you might find it's a different story in the southwestern regions.

I arrived in Paris at 9 PM on Bastille Day two years ago and the Champs Elyssee was jam-packed with people and police. Everything was very calm to be honest.

When we booked our long weekend we hadn't even considered Bastille Day and we got a Hotel on Rue de Berrie (off the Champs Elyssee) for a reasonable rate.

Carcassone has the best fireworks display on Bastille and the outside of La Cite is done up to look like it is on fire. It is supposed to be super and i would imagine it will be very busy but you would get accomadation if you book now. It is a gteat day to be in France as there is celebration everywhere.
