Just a heads up for a twice weekly (I think) 60 min show on TV3 presented by Matt Cooper and Eddie Hobbs who tackle a politican each night - Trevor Seargent in the hot sea right now.

Trevor Sargent did quite well I think :) I thought the interview was fairly sloppy..... Hobbs and Cooper were talking over each other on many occasions. I know they want to grill the leaders as much as possible, but asking them one question at a time would make more sense to me.

But yeh, he did well I think. Micky McDowell is up next Thursday :)

I thought the format was awful Hobbs and Cooper seemed more intent on talking over each other and trying to appear the cleverest than actually getting to the nitty gritty of Sargent's policies.

I agree, it had gimmick written all over it. Hobbs, even when he's making a good point is an annoying tw*t.

Absolutely awful show. As already stated they talked over Trevor Sargent and never really let him answer their questions. I found it very frustrating viewing and gave up on it before the end.

Its a pity if the two lads can calm down and not keep trying to out talk each other this could be good. I wonder will Bertie go on it :D

I agree with all of the above..its was a bit of a joke...they just tried to out do one another...grow up lads.

Frustrating is probably the word to sum it up for me......

Hobbs has no place in a political debate, he should stick to giving bankrupt fools basic and obvious financial advice.

Matt Cooper deserves a show(TV one) on his own

It was like Sargent was standing in for Mirima. He was asking them to shut up at times.

They weren't polls apart they seem to have much of the same views and ideas.

God it was crud alright...poor aul Sargent, like a hapless bloke listening to two carping mothers-in-law (if such person could have two...) complaining about him . Each of them - Cooper and Hobbs - trying to outdo each other with the hyperbole

"Will i have to go to work on my donkey like my grandfather?" and the like.

There's nothing wrong with *either* Hobbs or Cooper having a half hour argument with a politician, but the idea of one hapless div being shouted at - and that's what it almost was - by them just made for appalling telly. I sky plussed it last night and deleted it just after the ads, and removed the series link.

    No Stronger Means of Disapproval!!!

    :-)

    Horrible show...just horrible.

I like Matt Cooper and have little to no opinion about Hobbs, but both of them came off really poorly last night.

Trevor couldn't get an answer in edgwise with Hobbs asking him a new question just as he's about to answer Cooper.

Either the producers tell the lads to tone it down and show some respect for their guests or this show is going to die.

If it wasn't for the fact that the mad mullah will be on it next week I wouldn't watch.
I just hope they ask him proper questions and give him the chance to answer.

Last nights first outing was a travesty.

even the set up look weird - Sargent at centre of desk with cooper and hobbs on either side - it even looked like trevor was the referee between the other two

Anybody ever see the show 'Crossfire'? It's on some American station, and it has Tucker Carlson and some other guy presenting it and I guess it follows a similar format to 'Polls Apart'. Tucker is a Republican and the other bloke is a Democrat, so depending on the guest they end up asking different types of questions. I'm wondering if Polls Apart is attempting to replicate that kind of format. Except I dunno what the difference is between Eddy Hobbs and Matt Cooper.

What's the title, 'Polls Apart', supposed to be in reference to, BTW? The political parties? Or the presenters?

Eddie Hobbs has no place on TV, never mind a political debate. He's extended his ten minutes of fame by far enough. He should be put out to graze now and not allowed back into a TV studio again.
He's so arrogant and annoying - even more so when he tries to be funny. He thinks he represents 'the people' for some reason. If only he knew most 'people' hate the sight of the ugly twerp....

McDowell just finishing up now..... He did pretty good too.

Matt Cooper put it to McDowell that he has ruled out a coalition with FG, but Mick made it clear that he didn't do anything of the sort ;) He says FG ruled out a coalition with the PDs.

Next Monday "one of the leaders of Sinn Féin" is up.

Why does Eddie Hobbs say "See you on Monday, make it a date" at the end of the show? I mean, do we not make enough fun of him?

I presume it'll be Mary Lou McDonald, media friendly etc.

I thought he looked like the dour, serious, sober bloke chatting to twojokers in a pub. He diddn't bomb, but he looked like he couldn't wait to get out of there, Matt cooper and especially Eddie Hobbs are there to promote themselves (maybe that's just my reaction to Eddie Hobbs  )

On the whole it's a pathetic, condesending , tabloid-esque show.

that said I'll watch the shinners for a laugh / personal annoyance factor.

True that! But he's always serious and sober, so I wasn't really expecting him to be fun and games! Relatively speaking, he did decent enough ;) He managed to refrain from referring to the Nazi party, for example....

I just felt that it was a bit like someone going on podge and rodge and half way through it they have this "I want to sack my agent" look on their face.

Hobbs has found his genere limit.....
