first played against you about a year back i think, playing an 30euro sat to an irish open side event... you were the tightest tight rock ever!!! i should also preface any comments below are purely based on tournaments as ihavent played any cash with you. think both lloyd and aodea said you were the player they most worried about in that 50e live sng in the jackpot and i think i played against you for a bit at our GJP live game and then dealt a small bit to you at the IO. playing against you i'm happy enough to take a flop with you because i figure it is very much in your ability to be raising with air, so my calling range against you would be quite wide. I noticed that you were happy to follow through with alot of post flop raises but to any resistence you clammed up a bit on later streets (this is mainly in gjp game). one hand i can think of was you raises preflop, got called, happily fired a bullet on the flop, got called, and then when a 3rd card to complete a flush draw on the turn it you seemed happy to concede the hand. Also you made a great read on AKQJ10 during that game but didnt have the heart to repop on the river. maybe trust your reads more, u clearly have a good idea of whats going on at a table and more often than not you're read will be accurate. basically, trust yourself more.

During the IO to be fair to you there was yourself and maybe 2 other at the table that didnt need AA to raise preflop but what was killing you was that one of the scandie kept reraising you. It was clear you were trying to get something going but the raises weren't getting through. not sure what to take from that though, not sure if i think you should rethink your preflop bet frequency or maybe fight back against reraises. !?!? dunno...

right... hope that helps... back into my shell and feel free to ignore all that!

    thanks for the post jeff.

hmm, yeah. the players to my left were fairly passive, I was opening as many pots as possible and he was the only one standing up to me. he 3bet me 3/4 times over the day, twice when you were there, making it look like i was getting run over, to you! I really should have started 4betting him light, even just to try and take back control of the table.

part of the reason i didn't was that it would have been for my stack and i guess i didn't want my exit hand story to be something like "well I open raised 82o in mp, he re-raises from the blinds, I shove and he insta-calls with aces..."

probably should be a bit more aggressive.

thanks Lloyd, but tbh I did run pretty hot in that game, was happy with how I played tho, except for my exit hand

live tells was something I wondered about, I was always a bit paranoid I was a big tell bag! i do have a tendency to smile a lot in hands, i don't think it's much of a tell since I do it in a variety of situations, but it's something I should really work on to stop...

that's true. I remember at that student game I made a conscious effort to pay more attention when i saw how intently you focused on the action.

lol. 200+ views and only 2 replies. this means one of:

a/ your game is pretty solid
    b/ no-one likes you
c/ only myself and lloyd like you (and lloyd likes no-one!)
d/ you only paid me and lloyd. (still waiting on the poker stars cash transfer btw!)
e/ you dont play live enough...

im gonna go with e... PLAY MORE LIVE! its more fun!

I've never played against you, but there is something I've noticed from your posts. When you play full ring games, i.e. mainly live MTT's, I've a feeling that you keep the same style of play from your 6-max cash games. I don't think you adjust properly, are a bit too aggro, and think that other players are playing wider ranges than they actually are. It's just an impression, mind, and like I say I've never played against you so I could be way off.

from my few hundred hands against you playing pretty low-level 6-max cash, your best weapon was your aggression.

It was also your biggest weakness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,754 ✭✭✭ianmc38

My limited cash game experience with you online was you raised too much OTB and din't respond well to 3-betting.

    That's about it.

Your lag cash game ways have adversely affected your donkament play imo.
Very few cashes in the 1000c DCU deepstack this year... :D

Don't play with you enough at any significant level to comment really, other than that your a big tell box, if only I could read some of them.

What is it, 6 and 0 heads up or something?

Ive only played once with you at the IO for about 5 hours. You were 2 to my left and at the time,I had no idea who you were.
The table started very quietly (which surprised me) with mostly all players grinding there way into the tournament.Once the blinds got to 75/150 you became much more active, raising most pots that were folded to you and 3 betting players who were noticeably weak tight.

I was pretty sure that you were doing this lightly so I started raising accross you, hoping for a 3bet with the intention of 4betting you:D , but you didnt take the bait (lol).

So all I can suggest is that if I can pick up on this other people(especially experienced tournament players) can. Your aggression is a great weapon but in our limited session, I thought you were using it too often. So my only advice is keep the aggression but ease back on the frequency of it to keep your opponnents guessing.

Played at the same table with you only once, afaik
It was a dit college uber donkament a year ago, you were one of a few good of DCU players, bubbleking was another.
I remeber you playing very tight and getting too low to survive, and we were bout out around the same time, i think we jumped into a STT, although you might not of been there, i won bubbleking second, and it was at this table that I heard of boards, I knew pat carl tag and the DIT A st lads from various games and they all knew boards so I hopped on te bandwagon.
I only found out that you were that guy from the game above in jan at the student open

yeah, you'd be right there actually. it's something I always have to pay attention to; that I don't get too loose and aggro in a fr game, especially in ep.

    hmmm. cryptic...

in what way was it my weakness, firing too many barrels?

pffft. if it wan't for that case Q on the river I would have taken that game down a couple of weeks ago. I only played a couple this year. I'll win one next year, don't worry! ;)

lol, you had a good image, so i wasn't gonna tangle too much with u!

I was surprised how timid and tight are table was, other than a couple of hands you were involved in early on there was hardly any action.

I don't pay live or fr at all, and like lenny said I played it fairly similiarly to my 6max game, which is probably a bit too laggy. no surprise that guy in the corner seat sitting beside mickey wernick started taking advantage of my wide raising range to an extent. i need a bit more experience playing live tournies I think, especially to get the level of aggression right. thanks, hopefully I'll get to play with u again!

was that the game that culchie sponsored? yeah I was an uber nit back then, my game basically involved playing tight and waiting for someone to double me up. I was pretty bad, but I think I managed to finish 4th/5th in that tho, helped by cracking aces with the monster that is 85o when short stacked!
say hello if we're ever at the same table again.

Well, I am just going by DCU experience, your a rock!! :)

And like someone else said you should play live a bit more, something like JP's monthly tournaments seems good as it's cheap tournie with nice buy in and fairly mixed standard and of course jackpot thursday game :)

havent played with you enough to give a fair response. your thougth processes seem pretty sound although if you do start playing live again id adjust them slightly.

Sorry I've no comments about your play, havnt played enought with you to say anything useful.
Ian made a coment about your 3-betting being weak, how did you go about improving this online, when did you figure it was best to 4-bet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,894 ✭✭✭✭phantom_lord

I just played on full tilt for a while. and there was that thread I started maybe a month or two ago where robin lacey and pok3rplaya made a few really good posts, that helped too.

i used to play in the fitz most days of the week, and in the riverside in drogheda sometimes as well. Don't really play live anymore.
